Saved by anti-lock brakes
If it weren't for my anti-lock brakes, my car would right now be either in a ditch, smashed, or both. I forgot that the end of my street gets pretty slick in snowy weather, as we have this morning, and I failed to allow extra stopping distance as I approached the T-intersection at the end of the street. I slid, and felt the anti-lock braking engage. Looking to my left, I could see a car approaching in the lane I needed to be in. I kept sliding, and there was nothing for it but to continue into the turn. Thanks to the anti-lock brakes and the Fit's great turning radius, I executed the 90 degree turn to the right perfectly, and slid into the lane right in front of the oncoming vehicle. That driver either thinks I'm a jerk for not stopping at the stop sign, or realizes how lucky we both are.
