I woke this morning to the sound of several voices from the past: NPR’s Morning Edition former host Bob Edwards
speaking with (apparently) legendary sportscaster
Red Barber. I heard their conversations Fridays through the 1980’s on Morning Edition, until Red’s death in 1992. Red would have been 100 this Sunday.
This morning, trying to remember when Red died, I tried to recollect where I was living at the time. I was living in a rented twin single in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and had just started my first job in my field, working for an environmental consulting firm in Cincinnati. I commuted 55 minutes each way every day, until I finally rented an apartment closer to work the following January.
