Saturday my troupe performed at OSU's Renaissance Festival. Our first performance was good, but not great, and I was looking forward to doing better at our second performance when the rain began and didn't let up. I wasn't even sure we would have an audience for our second performance because of the rain, but a few hardy souls (including Alex, Goat, Betsy, Steph, Traci - you guys rock!) braved the weather to see us. I even danced on water glasses, in the rain! Woot! Of course it stopped raining right after our finale.
Sadly most vendors had already packed up by the time we finished due to the rain, so I didn't get to do any shopping. After the fair I joined a bunch of people at Middle Eastern restaurant for dinner, which was yummy. I was very glad I had thought to pack street clothes to change into, and even more glad I had decided to leave them in the car.
Yesterday evening we met up with
aislinggheal and K to see Tuvan musicians and throat singers
Alash at Little Brothers. They were so very good. Their beautiful music has at its base the rocking rhythm of a horse's gait, and indeed it seemed (per the translator) that most of the songs were about fast horses and beautiful women. Gotta love that! I would love them even without the
throat singing, but that was an added benefit. I've been shown how to do throat singing before, but I've never been successful at it. I highly recommend seeing Alash if you have the chance.
