Herb garden

I flexed my work schedule yesterday and left a couple of hours early so that I could plant a small herb garden in the back yard. I removed the sod from a circle about 3 or 4 feet in diameter to make the bed. Since my compost has been cooking for over a year now I was able to dig some good humus out of the bottom, just chock full of earthworms, to fork into the soil. Over top of that I put down one of those water permeable plastic sheets that helps keep down weeds. (Those things are a total godsend! I used one in the herb garden I had at my old house and it worked great). I planted English thyme, lemon thyme, dill, oregano, basil, sweet marjoram, cilantro, garlic, and German chamomile. I still need to plant marigolds around the outside to keep down pests, mulch around the plants, and circle it with a small wattle fence, but it is mostly done.

I was really tired by the time everything was planted. I wanted to keep going and plant the marigolds and mulch everything, but I was hungry and ready for dinner. I had to keep telling myself that it was okay to stop and eat if I was ready for that. The garden will still be there when I'm rested and ready to finish it.
