TV Turnoff Week

So I guess this week is national TV Turnoff Week. I didn't even realize it until someone asked me yesterday if my TV was off this week. I gave him a puzzled look and said that my TV is always off.

Well, not always, but almost always. I do watch Battlestar Galactica, but that's in hiatus right now. I do have two movies on the way from Netflix. I used to watch 30 minutes of a movie or TV show DVD in the morning while I ate breakfast, but I have given that up in favor of exercising then, because I'm finding it difficult to work evening exercise into my schedule. And since I like to exercise with yoga DVDs, my TV is still on for half an hour in the morning.

I know I probably come across as a goody-goody, but I have slowly given up the habit. I used to have a serious television addiction years ago and tried very hard to quit. I tried not to watch any new shows. I stayed with my favorites until they ended, and didn't add new ones. TV shows that people recommend as good I rent on DVD from Netflix. I refuse to get satellite or cable because I live in fear that I'd just sit there channel surfing. I get two DVDs a week and that works for me as an amount of watching that I can handle.

So I think when the movies from Netflix arrive I'll watch them this weekend, if I feel like it. I don't need to keep my TV off. I have nothing to prove.

In related news, I have been selected as a Nielsen family this year. They are going to pay me $5 to not watch TV during sweeps week in May. Heh.

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go back to reading a recap of Battlestar Galactica at Television Without Pity before my lunch break is up.
