Homeowner

It's official. I am now a homeowner. And much poorer.

The closing went well. There was some confusion over the amount of CAUV (agricultural use tax discount) reimbursement that was required. Land that is actively being used for agricultural purposes gets a heafty property tax discount. When the use of that land changes, the government wants that discounted money back. My real estate attorney had estimated that value to be $48, which was such a low sum that it really didn't matter to either of us who paid it. In the contract negotiations we had gone back and forth and I guess it finally ended up on the seller's tab.

But when it came to the closing, the amount was listed as almost $400. That had us all stumped for awhile. It turns out $400 was the correct amount. The lawyer must have made an error somewhere. So then we had to decide who would pay it. We agreed to split it, which I thought was fair. After that there were no more surprises, just lots of signing. And then it was over. The whole process took just under two hours.

And now I'm tired and thinking about turning in early. It's been a long week. Luckily it should be a quiet weekend. I'm planning on cleaning the kitchen, getting a massage, hennaing my hair, possibly going to a spa party Saturday night, and continuing to purge/starting to pack. Good stuff.
