Pre performance jitters

Tonight my Middle Eastern Dance troupe will be performing at Columbus’s first night celebration. I’m feeling a bit nervy, so I thought I’d write it out and maybe feel better.

I work across the street from where we will be performing tonight, so I’ve decided to stay downtown after work so I don’t have to worry about finding a place to park. Last night I packed a bag with my costumery and makeup and brought it in to work with me. Insha’llah, I didn’t forget anything.

I’m in two numbers, a four minute long Khaleegy (saudi woman’s dance) group choreography and a Turkish Roma (gypsy) number that’s a bit longer. We have two performances, at 8:30 and 10:30. Last night’s dress rehearsal went well. Although, dancing Khaleegy without warming up first is hard on the hip joints, and I’m a little sore today. Must remember to warm up first tonight. I’m trying not to have obsessive thoughts about the bits of the choreography that I might have trouble with. It will all flow then the time is right. And if it’s not perfect, so be it.

Possibly because I’m a bit keyed up, I had a bit of trouble getting to sleep last night. So before I finally turned out the light, I turned my alarm back an hour so I would get enough sleep. I’m glad I did, cause I felt really refreshed when I woke up. Still, it'll be a long day. I'm sure I'll have fun once I'm up in front of an audience, though. I always do!

dance, dancing, first night
