I was feeling nostalgic lately, so I went over to YouTube and watched some old Placebo videos. I have to admit that while this band is still among my favourites, they used to be so much better. The first 3, maybe 4 albums were pure gold, and the videos were great, too. I believe the same goes for videos in general: the 90's - early 2000's produced some really interesting examples of videos, to which the stuff that's made today simply can't compare.
First of, Nancy Boy. Love the song, love the vid. It's insane, and there's actually Steve in this video (not the new!Steve, the proper!Steve), but you can't see his face, because he was contractually bound to another band at that time. And Stefan looks positively alien.

36 Degrees. Oddly enough, this is the song that I could dub my 15-year-old self anthem. (Not Teenage Angst, yeah, surprise!) I've always adored
the lyrics; they seemed so easy to identify with. The underwater scenes in the video and the general dark, swampy atmosphere cemented it for me.

Pure Morning. Does it even need any explanations? It's probably the most famous Placebo video ever, it's the video (and the song) Placebo used to be recognised for. Hell, I think people used to recognise Brian's face from the close-up in that video. The song is featured on my top favourite Placebo album, Without You I'm Nothing.

You Don't Care About Us. Haha, I think that's me and all my relationships with people. But honestly, it's the creepy aristocratic-looking boy. And the fish. And Brian looks hot. No, seriously, you gotta love the creepy boy!

Taste in Men. Possibly my top favourite Placebo video ever. All the band members look, if I may be so gay as to say, fabulous. The implications of all sorts are brilliant and the ending is, for want of a better epithet, simply cute. XPP

Slave to the Wage. The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory. And I love the shredder girl. I think she's exceptionally pretty, the way her clothing and make-up are done, that is. There is something dystopian about the setting of the video. The only issue I have with this video is the word "witch" that was used to replace the original "bitch". But I suppose you just can't fight censorship sometimes. A substitute is better than a sound signal or the likes of it.

Special K. It's just this whole anatomy thing. Insane, but very captivating. ;) And android!Stefan. XPP

Black-Eyed. Another personal anthem of mine of a few years back. I love the couple. ;) And the concert setting; it reminds me of all the concerts of Placebo I've been to.

Twenty Years. It's sad, but it's probably the last Placebo video on this list. Brian in a tie, that's just... Well, you catch my drift. ;) The song is incredibly beautiful and nostalgic.

While I didn't include any other videos here, I should say that it's not because they're bad per se. For instance, I find
Special Needs pretty sexy, but it lacks the feeling and the emotional connections that the aforementioned videos possess. Besides, I don't particularly enjoy the song. As for the newest videos, don't even get me started.
We-ell... If you watched/read all this, you're either crazy or Erin. ;)
Maybe I'll do the same for some other favourite band/singer of mine. Tori Amos, perhaps? Nirvana? Anything else? Any ideas? :)
