Let's all meet up in the year 2000

So yeah, my unhealthy obsession wit Iron Man comics continues, I have now completed the 90ies and am now firmly on my way to the Civil War. Again. I have no idea if I can read that again, IT STILL MAKES ME SO SAAAD.

Some really great storylines, some not so great (time travel to the Middle Ages? Really?), Stark losing his company and getting it back once or thrice, the Mandarin/Temugin happening (I love dragons, but they do SO not fit into this universe, yet STILL THEY TRY EVERY TIME. AUGH), apparently only shaving when he's on the run, becoming Bush's Minister of Defense and going to Iraq... you know, the usual. I might have melted a little when he blew his secret identity just to save a small boy's dog from getting run over by a car.

Meanwhile, the subtle bromance between Cap/Iron Man continues (despite Tony's Evil Ex Ty Stone turning up to determine once and for all whose is bigger. Men.) - some evidence:

When faced with certain death, it's a memory/daydream about Cap that gets Tony to fight back - well, or at least die like a man. And where Tony has a very peculiar relationship to his armour, which goes all Misery on him when it gains sentience.

Cap is Tony's password. OMG. He also finally develops a thing for not going commando underneath the armor, though I'm not sure about the colour. He will keep it, and despite my reservations, he will even store it in his bones. Bah.

Just what to wear to a superhero dress-up party? Oh yeah, he so wants to be IN Captain America.

Priorities, I has them.

Not a big fan of Rumiko, though. She just doesn't get Stark like I do and I got the impression the writers weren't so keen to have her around either - no idea why, she could've been awesome. Instead she mostly whines, which is a pity after their kickass start on that volcano island. I hate it when the characterisations of the supporting characters change around so often (that's also true for Happy/Pepper but also that Pepper/Tony thing going on - it always feels like a curveball when they switch that around).

Anyway, just finished the Extremis storyline and I see why many think it's an absolute highlight. I have no idea why they complicated it for Iron Man 3 - just that story would've made an awesome movie.
Story reboots are always so annoying (what is it, the 4th now?) - I feel like I've missed something every time. Pity, I really loved that mechanical/Ultron heart, but that seems to be jossed for now. Meh. At least they more or less kept the idea of the bioelectronic nervous system.

Still, they had me at this panel, because that's about the epitome of everything Tony Stark is AND I CAN'T STOP OGLING HIM AND HAVE FEEEEELINGS. He's so yummy when he's emo.

I adore the new cover art. I SO NEED THIS AS MY WALLPAPER - any idea where I might get that artwork without all the stuff obscuring it?

tl;dr: Dune cannot stop gushing over a fictional guy.
