A survey for a class I'm taking

Aug 27, 2005 04:41

I'm going to present a list of sentences and what I need from those of you with a few minutes to spare is to tell me A) what your first impression is of someone you imagine saying each sentence, and B) does it sound right to you. I do not need to know why you think something is right or wrong. There are no right or wrong answers since no dialect is better or worse than another. This is simply about language and perception.

1) Kathy and me arrived first.
2) I ain't seen 'em.
3) Whom shall I say is calling?
4) It don't matter to me.
5) We been here a long time.
6) That man was kind to my sister and I.
7) Someone left their umbrella here.
8) We was right.
9) If the weather was warmer, we could have a picnic.
10) They did it theirselves.
11) I'm right, aren't I?
12) That's me in the photograph.
13) Nobody gets nothing for free.
14) She is smarter than he.

If you decide to help me with this, you needn't answer them all. However, please make note of the numbers you do answer, so that I can sort through my data more easily.

P.S. I promise a real post soon.
