What is a story without characters? Nothing. A person my have the most wonderful story idea ever, but without a character to see things through, the story can never be told. They are our heroes, our villains, our buddies, and lost loves. They are the ones who suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune and take up arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing, end them. Yet too often they are underdeveloped. Left on the wayside in exchange for fancy plot twists and big explosions. These two dimensional characters are rarely strong enough to carry the three dimensional world the writers put them in. They need to have something to make them unique and real.
This week, your assignment will involve a bit of people watching. I want you to go out and choose a random stranger, give them a name and an occupation, a personality, marital status, whether they're happy with their life or not, and where on their body they have a scar and how they got it.
