i'd like to compile a list of complaints about living in this canisius college apartment, but first i'd like to mention that there shouldn't even be a list considering the cost to be a full time student and resident (before scholarships/financial aid) is $32,121 a year. the cost to live in this hole-in-the-wall "apartment" is a whopping $5940 for the whole year. now, this may not seem like a lot until you consider the fact that i live here for a total of only seven months. so, what this means is that my "rent" comes to $848.57 a MONTH! finally, let me note that four girls live in this joint, which makes the montly total $3,394.28! where is this money going?
now, for the list of problems we have had/are having so far during our stay here at main-humboldt:
- one person is lucky if she can get through her shower without the water turning ice cold. i seem to be the victim of this usually, and i know i take long showers, but that shouldn't matter! considering the money they're making off my living here, there should be unlimited hot water, right?
- it's straight up freezing in mine and laura's room. there's something wrong if the heat is at "85" and i can't touch my wall without getting frostbite.
- our front door is being stubborn and it takes quite a bit of strength to unlock it with the key. the other day i stood out in the cold for five minutes trying to get it upon until a neighbor came to my rescue!
- our dishwasher thinks it's cool to leave some dishes dirty, and so we have to wash some twice.
- we had to get a new microwave because it broke one day out of the blue,
- and a new fridge for the same reason.
- i also needed a new bed at the beginning of the year because there were multiple springs popping out. that's got to be real safe for a girl who's had back surgery.
- there's something wrong with jess and ally's toilet as there is almost no water in it.
- laura, ally, and jess cannot get on the internet because their computer's are suddenly not up to the canisius network standards. if they brought their computers home and hooked them up they would work just fine.
- we've had countless lights burn out on us, which is really annoying because we have to deal without the light until maintenance comes to fix it.
- when we moved in there was a hole in the wall. literally.
- they neglected to paint our walls before we moved in - very unattractive.
- laura and i have FOUR lights in our room, yet it is still dark as a dungeon.
- our curtain in the living room broke.
- in laura's words, "LK9242 (1:14:22 PM): you can put how our oven isn't clean so every time we cook we have to turn on the fan so the fire alarm doen't go off!" this has got to be the most ridiculous of them all because we have had two experiences so far when public safety has had to come to our apartment while some one was cooking, and the next time this happens we will be fined fifty dollars. IT'S NOT OUR FAULT!
i think that about wraps it up for now, though i am sure there are more minor problems that slipped my mind. of course, we're only half-way through the year and even though it doesn't seem possible, i'm sure more problems will arise!
what a joke.
