Resistance was futile. I will become part of the Borg collective of the gaming industry: Electronic Arts. Starting on May 8th, I will be working on the SIMS 2 Expansion Team. There's a lot of good things about this deal. Sims is one of the most successful gaming franchises ever. Two or three Sims expansion packs come out every year and those will be part of my gaming resume. Unlike Sony, Electronic Arts also has a lot of other kinds of projects going on that I should be able to move into eventually. And the campus is pretty swank.
My only real worry is that the job is not going to exercise my coding skills. It appears that all my work will be with a proprietary scripting language. That experience will not be applicable to any future job. So I've made a resolution to get myself admitted into a masters degree and start taking evening classes this fall. EA will reimburse tuition expenses.
Starting a new job always makes me a bit nervous, but there are no less than four people that I've worked with before within shouting distance of my desk location. It should be fun. A shout out to Kiyoshi whose as-sim-ilation joke I just stole for my header. I'd feel bad, but I have a feeling it's a pretty old joke on that team. :D
