This has been a very enjoyable Christmas vacation. Well, not exactly a vacation since I don't get vacation days, but it wasa break from work and New York and a nice time with the family.
On Christmas Eve, the whole Fund family got together here. It was the first time in over ten years that all seven of the grandkids have been together, along with the three kids and Mema and Papa. We took lots of pictures, cause who knows when the next time we'll see Kent and Megan will be. That morning, I drove to State Line and had brunch with Kate. It was so good to see her. We talk every once in a while but see one another far too rarely.
We've spent a lot of time enjoying the HD tv and the surround sound system I put together. They paid me to install it, which was unexpected. I did spend about six hours working on it, though, so it's appreciated. We watched Little Miss Sunshine, Lady in the Water, Superman Returns, Monster House, Collateral, and the obligatory A Christmas Story. I was also lucky enough to watch Altman's Images. Many, if not all of these, will soon be available on
cinemark.
The battery on my laptop has died, and the computer won't recognize it, so I can only use it when it's plugged into AC power. My dad and I went to the Apple store on the Plaza this morning to get it looked at, and they said I can get the battery replaced for free under warranty, but they are on backorder, so I'll do it in New York. While there, I ran into Jami Gann and her mom who were shopping for a new computer. It was great to see her and catch up. After the store, we went to Fiorella's Jack Stack and had barbecue ribs. It's not a complete trip to KC without it.
My flight was moved back to 4:40 this afternoon instead of 1:55 so that I didn't have a 4 1/2 hour layover in Milwaukee. Extra time in Independence and more fun with the family.
I forgot to mention what I got for Christmas! I got money from lots of relatives, totaling somewhere around $175. I bought several DVD's with that, including the Marx Bros. box set, the 1985 Alice in Wonderland miniseries, Happy Endings, and Pleasantville. All for under $50. My brother gave me a D&D supplement, "Fiendish Codex I: Hordes of the Abyss." But mostly it was money this year, which is really all I ever ask for. I'm a tough person to give gifts to cause I always want DVDs and CDs and books and such and no one ever knows what specifically I want and which I already have. So money's fine. And it pays rent and bills if I don't use it on media.
Getting ready to do final packing and make the trip to the airport. Hope everyone had as merry a Christmas as I did, and has a wonderful New Year.
