What do you call a cake made out of nasal mucus?
A sinus confection!
That's what I have now. Only, not a cake, but an party of evil bacteria that have decided the place to be is in my head. I took yesterday off and spent it sleeping and goign to the doctor. It's tough not having insurance, but the doctor I went to for my lip who I liked so much only charges $50 for a visit, and he gave me some samples of the antibiotic so I don't have to pay for as much out of pocket. When I get insurance again, he will be my physician of choice.
Last night, Alison and I watched An Inconvenient Truth which was scary, but not as much as I expected. I thought there would be dramatizations or animations depicting the future, but I was glad it wasn't a documentary version of The Day After Tomorrow. It would have been nice if it weren't so Gore-centric. Not that I mind, but my parents, for example, would be less likely to watch and hear this vital message simply because he is the center of it. That's the biggeswt criticism I have, is that it isn't as accessible to people who assume it will be a partisan/political film as I wish it were. But other than that, it was amazing. I think it is one of hte most important films in history, especially if it can be seen by enough people and really make the difference it needs to make. If you haven't seen it, See it Now!!!
This weekend we went to the
Christmas Revels at Symphony Space, tickets to which I won on NPR last week. It was not the celebration of the Winter Solstice I was hoping for, including such strange injections as "I Have a Little Dreydl" and "Rock of Ages," but it was a lot of fun. I did get the Celtic folk song "Lord of the Dance," which is quite religious and thus not a celebration of winter, stuck in my head and have downloaded the Donovan version and listened to it over and over again since Sunday afternoon. Then Tuesday night we were given two tickets to see "The Wedding Singer" on Broadway with some coworkers of mine who got the tickets free. It was so much fun! As much as I love the movie, the play was even more enjoyable. The character of Holly was the best. And the numerous 80's references that I didn't expect, like the Imelda Marcos impersonator really pushed it over the top. If you have a chance, see this too!
We put up the tree last night, so now it feels like Christmas, even though we both have no money for any presents. Maybe santa will be good to us. The bad thing about Christmas are all the holiday parties that get in the way of my regular schedule. We aren't playing D&D tonight cause of Alison's office party, and I'm going to have to reschedule next week as well, since I'll be in KC. I just want the holidays to be over so I'll have what few gifts I will recieve, will have given the few I can afford to give, and won't have more of this "cheer" to deal with.
