Well, I got over my need to record the show and just went...and by not fretting how the sound quality was on my recorder, I managed to have a very good time! I missed the LIRR train I wanted to take and hence missed all but one Ben Folds song. Luckily it was my favorite: "Not the Same."
aaaaaah aaaaaah
Tori came on about 8:30 and put on yet another incredible show. It is hard to compare it to all the others, and espacially pick a best because they are all so fucking amazing! Setlist...comments will follow.

Energy was a bit low throughout, but I can deal with that. High points were: the version of "Crucfy" they did was very percussion heavy and trancy. It was virtually uncecognizable until she started to play the main melody. In the middle of "Pancake," Tori began to improv into Neil Young's "Ohio" and then back to the song. Phenomenal. In her solo set, she did a U2 cover..."Running to Stand Still." The audience was completely silent. It was one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard Tori do. After the solo part, when Matt Chamberlain and (the bassist) came back, Tori did a very long (almost two minutes) improv because she forgot the next song on the setlist and bot hshe and Matt were waiting for the other one to start with the intro to the next song. It was very funny. "Sometime I forget my setlist, and I look at matt and ask 'What the fuck?' and he looks at me and says 'what the fuck?' Sometimes when you turn forty, you start to forget things..." She went on for a while longer then ended by saying, "I can't think of a rhyme for that, so I'll jsut say 'I like assonance.' Then she went into the "Bells for Her" intro (which was her, not Matt). "Precious Things" was a very piano-less version. She only really played during the chorus, so it was nice to hear a very new version of another favorite. She interjected lots of "Who's your daddy"s into "Sweet Dreams" which made it even more awesomer than usual. I'm a little sad there was nothing from either Chiorgirl or Venus and only one song from Strange Little Girls, but overall it was a great set.
I got on the second bus back, no long ass line for me tonight. At the station, though, I had to wait for an hour for the next train and while waiting I met a couple from Olathe (a suburb of Kansas City for all of you silly people who know nothing about Midwestern geography) who were in town for the weekend and we talked the whole way back to Brooklyn. They were staying with a cousin who lived right off the R at 9th St. so we took the whole trip together. It was one of those chance meetings you only get in New York. we exchanged emails and everything, so maybe we will actually continue to communicate, though that rarely happens when people say it will.
Back home now. Gonna sleep at some point...
I found out I work night Monday and Tuesday, too, so I don't have to get back on my "normal" schedule quite yet. I prefer night anyway. No sun or people around. Since I finished Zappa on the bus, I will probably start either Diary of a Drug Fiend by Crowley or a collection of Lovecraft stories I got.
