Oy, what a day. I know I have no grounds to say I’m tired, but I really am. We’re working on this quasi-interesting, otherwise straightforward project in work. The EU came out with a new law that forces all offshore customers to disclose how much money they have sitting overseas. Prior to the law, this was the not the case and these sums went untaxed. Now, I suppose the Union needs more revenue and wants to prevent future bouts of tax evasion, so they’ve amended the law. If you leave your home country and move to another EU member state and live there and keep your money offshore, you’re not subject to any income tax. So, we’re trying to figure out which customers are affected by the law and which aren’t and if they are, let them know that they need to disclose the information and pay the tax. It requires going through loads of customers and performing the same task over and over. At first, it was somewhat engaging, but not it’s getting repetitive very quickly. Between that and the meager life we lead outside of work, I’m starting to lose my mind.
Luckily, I’m heading back to London tomorrow night. I need to pack up all my stuff for my voyage back to the motherland and our Professors also arranged one final group get together. We have a ‘Lebanese feast’ planned on Saturday night so I’m really looking forward to having quality food and a great time with the econ nerds.
More about today. Since it wasn’t raining after work, we figured we’d walk back. We were let out early and were in no rush to come home, so we proceeded to make the 45-minute walk back to our cottage. Wrong decision, really bad judgment call. Even if it doesn’t rain, you need to contend with the blustery wind and the ruthless cold. This is essentially the worst time of the year to be on the island. Because the only pathway is along the beach, we had to deal with some biting winds. As if that wasn’t enough, the sand persisted to pelt our faces and give me something to chew on. By the time, we got home, I felt like I was at the beach. It really hurt and I’m sure to get sick now. I don’t want to especially since I’ve avoided all the sick bugs all semester. The last thing I want is to head home with a cold. So, there you have it. I’m off to drug myself. Adios.
