Why I Love Motorcycles

An odd return entry, but I figure it's like church....it doesn't so much matter why you're back, as long as you're back. Yesterday was probably the most gorgeous day we've had this year, and Sensei took me for a short ride in the evening. His bike is almost brand new, and I've been itching for a ride ever since he got it. As soon as we took off, I remembered why I love riding so much. At first it's like floating; the air is all around you, and you can feel the sunshine, and there's nothing holding you down. Then the motor revs up, and it's this huge, powerful surge beneath you, and suddenly you're not floating - you're flying. Everything feels so much faster on a bike, and yet you have more time to look around you, and appreciate the sun and the sky and the green. You're closer to everything. Oddly enough, it's one of my favorite ways to spend time with people, too. You don't have to worry about making conversation...you're just there, together. It reminds me a little bit of afternoons with Jami, back in high school; we'd get together and sit in our rooms and just read our books. We just enjoyed being in the same place. On the back of a bike, you're free to sit in your own thoughts, mull things over, feel the wind running past you, feel the power beneath you, be near another human being, and just enjoy being alive. I feel alive on the back of a bike...alive and happy.

And that's a pretty cool thing.
