Moving slowly

Plans are forming and reforming, and I feel like the execution is coming very, very slowly. But hey, coming is coming (at least, that's what I've heard ;) ). For those of you who haven't heard, the plan for the summer was originally to get a second job now in order to sock away money to attend the Virginia Beach Bash in March, the Oregon Knockout in April (where I would intern!), the Eureka (IL) Stage Combat Workshop in May, and the ACW (NC) in July. Since the job has not (yet) been forthcoming ("overqualified" my backside), the plan has at this juncture been pared down to just the ESCW and the ACW (sorry Jess. I tried. if anything changes you'll be the first to hear). This should result in my being certified in Knife, Sword & Shield, Unarmed, Broadsword, and R&D by the end of July. Ambitious little thing, isn't she? So yeah, I should be busy this summer. And then there's the Renn Faire.

Further stage combat-ey news is that I am actually fight directing a show. The whole thing. Several instances of violence and death. I am scared nearly there. However, it looks pretty darn good on my resume (especially the one I sent off for my ACW scholarship application), and I'm looking forward to the experience. The show is, in all likelihood, not one that I approve of (I'll wait to see it to give the actual verdict), but the fights should ::crosses fingers:: be kick-butt. I hope. See What I Wanna See, Theatre II, first week of April.

Also of interest is that I've worked a couple of gigs for Comcast Sports as a utility, which means I got up at the crack of dawn and went to basketball games and set up and sat courtside making sure the cameramen didn't trip on their cables. Amazingly fun work, neat people, and a huuuuuge paycheck. I apparently impressed someone high up, 'cause after the JMU gig I got asked for specifically to do one down at VCU. It's neat to travel with Dad to do this stuff. Also, I met a guy who gave me the card of someone who has "a few independents and some major studio projects coming up...she'll need some help. tell her I sent you." It's a union card ::squeal::.
I have yet to get up the nerve to call her.
Unfortunately, these gigs came on consecutive weekends when I was supposed to go see Daniel. He was very nice about me bailing at the last minute twice in a row. I'm supposed to go up there next weekend. Christmas presents and all. ::rolls eyes:: Deep breaths, baby steps.

But then, that's life, isn't it?

I'm reading a really neat book now. I highly recommend John Piper to everyone. He's really amazing. My life has needed some changing, and his writing is pointing me in what I think is just the right direction. I'm stretching out a bit (again...), so we'll see where this goes.

Karate is going fantastically, and I've started assisting the Self Defense for Women class at JMU. However, I've somehow injured my elbow, and it's not healing quickly. I think it's hyperextension. I'm trying not to use it, but that's definitely not easy. I'm keeping it taped most of the time now, just to be safe. Hopefully it doesn't become serious...it is, after all, my sword arm.

And the fact that I have a sword arm makes me incredibly happy. :)
