I just got back from the Wichita mountains in SW Oklahoma. It was a great daytrip/hiking adventure and spiritual journey. At one point I climbed up onto some rocks on some of the oldest mountains in the world and was able to look out and see mountains and horizon and I found that peace that I have found before and held onto... that peace that comes from understanding how small a person is against nature, and seeing the earth and life flourish around just brings a smile to ones face...... and indescribable feeling in one's soul.
I saw hawks, other birds (including scissor-tail flycatchers and hummingbirds), spiders (including tarantulas), wild onions, a mountain lion, cactus flowers, lots of sage (we brought some home to make bundles), blue-bellied lizards, armadillos, bats, wild geese, buffalo, elk, wild longhorns, prairie dogs, and probably other animals i can't remember at the moment. lots of neat plants too. I went with my roommate and this really down dude that lives on our street.... it was what i needed to do. I needed to get out of Norman and have some quiet/meditative time. I am going to have to go back down to the Wichitas some more this summer. It's incredibly close, like an hour and a half drive from here. And it's a nice drive, too. We got to watch the sun set over the mountains on the way back home.
that's all for now - i start work soon and have no idea what to expect from that.
