Comcast also filters bandwidth to hinder file-sharing. They aren't selective about the kinds of file sharing they filter, either. It was hellish when we had comcast and used to play World of Warcraft, because all their updates are done via p2p network. It would take HOURS to download a file that should have taken 10 minutes, max.
We dumped them for AT&T's newer service - Uverse - which we have just loved.
I just did a quick search and it looks like comcast's mail servers do NOT support imap. So, your best option, if you wanna go with imap would be to set them up with a gmail account or go with another service like pobox.com or something (though they charge).
