Where On Earth: Domestic Edition - Episode 3

Oh it's been a Friday of shenanigans.  Never hold a knife while watching a thriller.  I was simultaneously chopping up fresh peppers for my breakfast omelet and catching up on Lost.  One surprise later and I was missing a bit of thumb tip.  It's amazing how much you need your thumb during the course of a day.  Typing, driving, phoning... the list goes on and on.  But one thing you don't need your thumb for is buying a Ford F-450 Super Duty dualie with a 7.5L V8.  It's a beast.  But I digress.  It's Friday and I'm off to the airport in a few minutes.  After very many weeks, that means it's time for another...

Where on Earth is George Sandiego?

The city I'm in today has been inhabited for at least 4,000 years (since the last Ice Age).  However, European settlers did not permanently live here until the early 1850's.  Early settlers called the area "New York-Alki" ("Alki" meaning "by and by" or "someday" in the local Indian jargon).

The area is similar to New York City in a few respects.  This is the largest city in its region of the United States.  It is home to several corporations with household names.  It has a reputation for great food.  However, with much larger acreage in the metropolitan area and with less than half the population, most of the similarities stop there.

This city is well known for its contributions to the performing arts.  Not the least of those is its contribution to music.  Two of the Forever 27 rockstars are deeply tied to this city.  However, because of its rock notariety, its contributions to jazz frequently get overlooked.

Major events in this city include a great fire in 1889, anti-Chinese riots just prior to that, the first general labor strike in the country (go commies!), and the hosting of both a World's Fair and the Goodwill Games (where even if you win, you're still a retard).
