I used a sharpening steel for a year or two and found it didn't sharpen, I needed a honing steel as well, and it would have worked if I'd used the sharpening steel lightly the odd time. I'm tempted to break my run of saving and buy one, they're only about seventy quid. I have whetstones, good Japanese Naniwa ones, but it takes a hundred strokes or more on a whetstone to do what ten would on a steel. I have a honing steel which I use after the whetstone, at least I'm doing that right.
Christmas and I'd like a glass of red wine and a good smoke, preferably some Kush weed, the type that relaxes and glues you to the couch. Alas, I wasn't bothered buying drink and as for the smoke... what a shithole of a country I live in. Raiders of the Lost Ark is on telly as well. People have pointed out that Indiana Jones doesn't actually do anything worthwhile in the film, at the end the Nazis open the Ark as they'd planned to do anyway, and get melted by angry angels, he might have well have stayed at home.
