I spend a lot of time driving on the highway, so it's not uncommon for me to see new cars "broken down" on the side of the road every week. But I do wonder about something I frequently see --> a cloth or a shirt, flagging from the window or antennae. Who is this for? And what does it actually mean?
It seems to be an unwritten rule of the road that everyone but me knows about.
I generally surmised it was meant for policemen, as a way of saying, "Be back soon! Please don't ticket/tow." (Even though I've seen these cars sometimes hang out for a couple of days or so.) But today I feel like asking. -- Have you noticed this? Can you tell me what this flagging means?
