Little Oscar just jumped out of the fish tank. And landed five feet down on the floor and then flapped into the kitchen. I tried to grab him, but then I dropped him back down again when his dorsal fin started stabbing me

Hee! Absolutely. After we dropped him back in the tank he just sort of drifted aimlessly for a while. I was almost sure he was thinking, "Dude...bad trip..." Now we'll see if he does the exact same thing next time. :P
Heh. It did sort of happen in slow motion. We were both just staring at him as he fell to the ground. And even then it was a second or two before we realized that just really happened! ;D
Hee, it's all lidded but he worries me sometimes with that too. They're all glass and he's constantly cracking in to them in mis-guided jumps for "food". He's not doing any damage now, but he's only about 5 inches long When he doubles that size, we might be looking at having to replace broken lids. :P
(We've had suicidal fishes too. Though they've always waited for the house to go to sleep to make their bid for a better world. ;])
ROTFLMAO! Like really! Thanks, that gave me a real giggle fit in the morning, better than sports and a cold shower! :o) Sometimes cats are such sissies... When Daisy was a kitten and she experienced a ringing telephone for the first time I almost peed myself: after the phone stopped ringing she slowly approached it, circled around it, closer, closer, almost, no, back, forth... stare... and then she lept forward, slapped it so hard it made a soft ping noise (that was one of those really old phones, must have been 15 years ago...), jumped right up into the air and ran like hell was after her. So I just imagined your cats making bugeyes because of the fish threat... ROTFLMAO!!!
I always forget how strong and fast those fish are. They're always drifting so peacefully or just making little darts here and there. Then you net them or...they jump out of the tank...and you get reminded pretty quickly. Fish are hard to hold onto! ;D
Thank god it wasn't Big Oscar. The bath I got just trying to net him when we moved to this house was more experience that I think I ever want to have again with him being out of the water. :P

And you were lucky that the cats didn't spring into action!

The cats were all freakin' out--crap, it's coming for revenge! They wouldn't have touched that wet flapping terror for anything.
