It's been a rough week so far.
My supervisor(s) at work have "asked" me to come in more often than I have recently. In and of itself, this isn't so bad. What's painful is that they "want" me to be in the office at 9:30. I have made it clear, several times, that this is difficult, as I have a 1.5hr commute to work. This would require me to wake up at ~7am, or earlier. I do not do well in mornings. I don't do well with 11-12 hour work days (Leave my apt for the bus at 8 am, walk back in the door of my apt at 7:30 at the earliest). I do even LESS well when those days start with me waking up at 7 am.
The comment was made "getting up at 7 is not uncommon in the professional world." Bull. Fucking. Shit. Am I honestly supposed to believe the people with 10-30 minute commutes wake up at 7 am to be in the office at 9-9:30? Do you honestly expect me to believe that every business in the world is idiotic enough to enforce absurd timetables on it's programmers? (Something I know is not true, as Lockdown never had any issue with me coming in a bit later, they knew I had a ~2hr commute.)
The real irony here, is that waking up at 7 am after ~5-6 hours of sleep is murderously tiring. I grab a coffee on my "layover" in the U-District, and I'm still dead to the world when I walk in the door at 9:45. I easily spend 1-1.5 hours idly poking at my computer before I'm actually coherent enough to start working. So sure, I come in that early, it certainly doesn't help my productivity at all. And I just leave at 5:30 after a "full" work day.
Still, this is going to kill me if I have to do it for too long.
Still, today was a fairly good day. One of my coworkers (the rather cute programmer chick) apparently got her US Citizenship recently (she's Russian). So we went to Coldstone to celebrate, that easily killed an hour or so. On the way home there was another cute girl reading a Mage: The Ascension (Second Edition) book. That was kinda hot. No, I did not say anything to her, as per usual.
I finally got the copy of Robotech: Battlecry for the gamecube I ordered some time ago. So I've been playing that a bit, rather fun.
