You know, sometimes things are supposed to be taken to
drastic measures.
For decades the Argentinians have been calling us Brazilians monkeys, or variations of that word. Because of the color of our skin. This is something that has always been more evident in relation to football, and you know what? IT HAS TO STOP. Because this is fucking RACISM.
And there is no other way of seeing it.
I know this isn't something every single Argentinian thinks or do. I don't want to generalize things. But fact is, there have been so many occurrences over the past century -- including a many headlines from various Argentinian's sports publications [!!!], that if it were up to me, FIFA would ban Argentinian teams from official competitions until the players realized THEY CAN'T CALL BLACK PEOPLE MONKEYS.
It is not funny, it is not a joke, it is not "a the stir of the moment" provocation during a game. It's PREJUDICE. And absolute utter ignorance. Argentina's History has NO African ties whatsoever. OTOH, Brazil's History is more tied to African roots than any other country in the Americas. Our whole colonization by the Portuguese was based in slavery. Races have been so completely mixed here that the truth is, when you slander one of us for the color of our skin, you're offending ALL OF US. You might look at me and see a "white" girl, but I can point you to my very black great-grandfather.
I just hope this particular case turns into an example for the whole world. If we can't ban racism from the face of the Earth, that at least we can get rid of it in the football fields.
