And, uh, being a fan of the Caps and Ovechkin, my thoughts on the Pens are pretty much limited to die, die, DIE, DIE IN A FIRE. So I would have to say I'm rooting for whoever it is they're playing against.
I feel sort of like a very bad Avs fan for wanting the Wings to win, but dear GOD do I want them to beat the ever living crap out of the Flames. Seriously. I want them humiliated. Because I'm mean like that.
Well, as a Wings fan I'm okay with anybody rooting for my guys for any reason. *g*
But really--I think the rivalry's cooled a bit, these days, no? We can be civilized people. At least until we're up against each other in the conference finals, and then it is ON.
Well, honestly, I just started getting into hockey this year because a couple friends of mine were all but determined for me to like it. I don't know much about the rivalry except that there is one, apparently, and that it centers around something that happened quite awhile back (which has been explained to me numerous time and in great detail, but I can never ever remember it.) I did however get to see the Wings/Avs game back in January and it was by FAR the best game I saw all season. We ended up losing in overtime, but it was awesome.
Yeah, the origins of the rivalry go back to May 1996 (when an Av player hit a Detroit player into the boards and the Detroit player's jaw was broken) and March 26, 1997 (when another Detroit player beat said Av player bloody on the ice, in a game that featured about a dozen fights). Yes, I know the date off the top of my head, and so do a lot of other hockey fans, at least in Detroit. Yes, it's our favorite game (it was released on DVD with four others, and yeah, I own a copy and have watched it more than once).
And, yes, it's been ten years, and very few of the relevant players remain on either team. *g*
(My icon is from the March 26, game, actually--it's the guy who got his jaw broken and the guy who beat up the guy who did it to him, hugging at the end of the game. Because what hockey is really all about is the fact that holy CRAP they are slashy.)
Wings were on Versus tonight, so we watched at home. Which was a comfort, after spending the WHOLE SEASON trying to listen over the internet.
If there are any other games that aren't on locally, though, I'd love to join people to watch in a bar or wherever. I can even be a complete dork and wear my jersey.
Whereas I graduated to web radio last night after a whole season of failing to pay close attention at all. (No Versus in my crappy cable package, alas.)
And I did have my jersey on. :)
And, yes! If they should make it to another round, hopefully we can do some kind of outing with, like, advance planning and all that jazz.

I have family in Pittsburgh, too, so they've always been sort of a backup loyalty, but--not this year! Fucking Crosby.
