Here's the thing.
Burning Man has been Done for me since about 2003. I keep going, but only because I love my friends and there has rarely been another time that we can all get away for weeks on end together. The event itself has pretty much sucked for me since then - and so when I am on playa, the second the gates open to the public I hunker down in my camp, spend time with my friends and play army and dress up.
It has been fun and every year there was one reason to be there. For many years that reason was La Contessa.
Then some shithead burned it down.
It still brings me to tears. When I saw the last installment of Pirates of the Caribbean I surprised my friends and myself by bursting into tears at the shot of a pirate ship stranded in the desert. (Well, everyone but the diva who spontaneously joined me while clutching my hands) It had somehow become an analogy for my whole opinion about Burning Man and my experiences there.
(You know, it was full of beauty, wonder and awe, built by community hands and made by artists for artists and art itself. It was dark. It was dangerous. Not fucking family oriented. Blood, sweat, tears, danger and triumph. This is what La Contessa and Burning Man had always been to me. Then some shithead, or rather 40,000 shitheads came and destroyed it...in the hopes of 'cleaning it up and making it safe'. Sanitized and destroyed.
John Law was right.
But I digress)
For months and months I have waited for this news and the name of the asshole that took La Contessa and all it stood for in my mind away from those of us that were touched by her. His name is Mike Jackass Stevens. There is a special spot in hell for him.
And I gotta say, Gerlach is not that big. And that the one and only reason to go this year would be if BMORG had Burning Man on his land. I'd shell out all the cash in the world to be part of that.
Fuck That Guy.
I hope they own him by the end.
