LJ Idol, Topic 24: "He Gave It a Ride, Folks" [fiction]

It was funny, he thought to himself. He'd always assumed that when the day actually came, he'd be so jittery that it would be immediately obvious what was going on. But here he was, prepped and ready to go, armed with his nuclear box, his secret still locked safely behind his teeth...and he was so damned cool, Bruce Campbell Himself could have ( Read more... )

I always love reading your work. You have great depth, diversity, empathy, and humor, all within a slightly twisted view of life. Wow, have you changed from the Froggy in the Loggy.

Oh now that's awesome that your mom commented. My mom reads my stuff now and then, but doesn't comment. Go Dslartoo's mom for being cool :)

And this was a sweet entry that totally made me smile. I'm a sap though, what can I say...

She reads all the time and is always asking me what I've done lately and when she can read it next. My biggest fan, I tell you. :)

Thanks for coming by! I'm happy you enjoyed the piece.

cheers,
Phil

Baseball and love...a perfect combination. :) Well done!

Some of the happiest times of my life were when I was dating a girl who also loved baseball. We used to spend nights just parked on her couch watching the game and snuggling. Happy times. Leslie, sadly, is not much of a sports fan, but then, I'm not either anymore, not really. I do miss baseball once in a while.

Thanks for coming by!

Awesome! The second I heard the key phrase, I knew where I was going with this. I'm unsure how well this will go over with the non-baseball fans, but hey, I gotta write what I gotta write. :)

Thanks for chiming in!

Phil

Well, I'm not much for the game, myself, but you kept me reading.

Oh good! If I can keep a non-baseball fan interested, I can keep anybody interested. Thanks! :)

Okay, I am chuckling at the "Froggy the Loggy" comment from your mom. I envy you the relationship you have with your mom that allows you to share your writing with her.

Nice take on the prompt, too. :D

Heh, thanks. That was a reference to a poem I wrote when I was just a wee small one. I don't remember it but she does. She's my biggest fan. :)

Glad you liked the piece! Thanks.

Phil

Ditto that! But then most of my reluctance to show my mother stuff is because it all comes with a great rainbow flag screaming GAAAAY!! all over it and I feel like I'm 15 again ;)

I adored this entry! :D I'm not American and never even seen a real game of baseball, but there's something about it that I love in stories. So this was awesome fun :D

Are you saying your mother doesn't know yet? Or that it just takes you back to the time when you were 15 and told her for the first time? I hope it's not the former.

This entry was actually partly inspired by Duane Decker's classic Blue Sox baseball books for kids (which I've been reading over the past couple weeks). They're old favorites and something about their situations made its way into this piece.

I'm glad you liked it! And thanks for coming by.

cheers,
Phil
