It was funny, he thought to himself. He'd always assumed that when the day actually came, he'd be so jittery that it would be immediately obvious what was going on. But here he was, prepped and ready to go, armed with his nuclear box, his secret still locked safely behind his teeth...and he was so damned cool, Bruce Campbell Himself could have ( Read more... )

Okay, I am chuckling at the "Froggy the Loggy" comment from your mom. I envy you the relationship you have with your mom that allows you to share your writing with her.

Nice take on the prompt, too. :D

Heh, thanks. That was a reference to a poem I wrote when I was just a wee small one. I don't remember it but she does. She's my biggest fan. :)

Glad you liked the piece! Thanks.

cheers,
Phil

Ditto that! But then most of my reluctance to show my mother stuff is because it all comes with a great rainbow flag screaming GAAAAY!! all over it and I feel like I'm 15 again ;)

I adored this entry! :D I'm not American and never even seen a real game of baseball, but there's something about it that I love in stories. So this was awesome fun :D

Are you saying your mother doesn't know yet? Or that it just takes you back to the time when you were 15 and told her for the first time? I hope it's not the former.

This entry was actually partly inspired by Duane Decker's classic Blue Sox baseball books for kids (which I've been reading over the past couple weeks). They're old favorites and something about their situations made its way into this piece.

I'm glad you liked it! And thanks for coming by.

cheers,
Phil

Oh wow, so that came out a little wrong. She knows, she is happy, nothing bad there! I'm just one of those people who gets embarrassed when anything to do with SEX turns up. Like when you're watching TV with your mum and suddenly there's a really heavy kissing scene... turns me into a blushing teenager again! So I'm still gearing up to one day shove the Idol book into her hands and tell her to go read her sweet, innocent, precious only daughter writing WWII-era lesbian seduction. ;)

I have never heard of those books but I am inspired to look next time I am in the library! They sound fun :)

Library might be the only place you *can* find Decker's books; they've been out of print for years and all of my copies are library copies bought from used bookstores. For a high price, I should add.

Still, they're definitely worth reading. Lots of fun.

cheers,
Phil
