( They were sitting in the Riv parked next to Lake Michigan. There was a gentle breeze coming off the lake and it was a full moon. )

The last line worked so well in the context - sensible Ray.

I think the olive oil was the funniest, as I can just picture Ma Vecchio's face when she finds out where the bottle is! ;)

Ray was surprised by how well it worked. Until two days later when he had to take the Riv into the shop with a damaged, un-lubricated axel.
