We'll be winding down a bit over the next month or so but before then I thought I'd post this.
It's already been in my journal but I'm posting here for reference.
Some comments by
scotchsour have led me to thinking about the marriages of the Vecchio
siblings, who married first and when those marriages took place.
1) Mysterious brother - We don't know if he is still alive of if he married. It has been said in some fanfic those older kids around the table were his.
2) Maria - We know she is married to Tony. We have no idea as to Maria's married name we assume it
is something Italian (I later found out the offical website listed it as Rezza but that website is now defunct and the information hasn't made it into fanon or canon). How long she has been married for is open to speculation.
In the pilot there is a mention of Maria and Tony's fifth wedding anniversary but we don't know if this was a recent event or one Maria is pulling out from their past as an example of Tony not thinking or
being romantic. I eould think it is recent becuase she states 'For our anniversary. Five years we've
been together.' which seems to be more of the present tense.
If her 5th weddding anniversary was around the time of the pilot then she and Tony would have been
married in 1989 which is why it has been speculated the children older than age 5 sitting at the
table can't be hers (no kids before marriage being the Catholic way of course there's no reason to think she didn't have kids before she was married). But if she married earlier some of them could be.
If as the general opinion is she is older then Ray she is certainly old enough to have kids who
could be in their early teens (assuming she is in her mid-thirties).
We don't know how many kids she has. She certainly has a young baby who looks to be around a year old
in 'The Duel'. So she could have been born around the beginning of S2 which is fine and
doesn't contradict anything.
3) Ray - We know Ray was married to Angie as it stated in canon but the question as to when is a
tricky one. We know that he was still married to Angie at the time of Carver's original arrest
which if the 'The Duel' took place in 1996 would prove in a way he was married in 1988.
This is the time he states his marriage was going through some problems as he stopped at home to
smooth things over after a fight.
We don't know when he and Angie got married, how long the marriage was or when they divorced (and I say divorced even though it could technically have been an annulment. Maria mentions getting one from Tony in the Pilot. I don't know which would be easier, possibly a divorce though for Catholics an anuulment would be the way).
We know he and Angie were definitly seperated by 1994 when Ray met Fraser. We can assume it was
also quite old history since Ray never mentioned Angie until he and Fraser met her in 'One Good
Man' although he could have been embarassed or ashamed perhaps. I would think the marriage didn't
last long, there were no children as far as we know and it seems that if Ray had children that wouldn't
be ignored in canon. I would think perhaps 1988 and the original Carver case was the time things
started to go wrong in Ray's marriage.
4) Francesca - Her marriage was very brief and didn't last. We know this from Maria's comments in
the Pilot.
It could have been a recent thing or not so recent but as Francesca is younger than Maria
we can assume that she probably married after, perhaps in the early 1990's. And her marriage was so
short it didn't produce any offspring especially as Francesca states to Carver in 'The Duel' she
is not married and doesn't have kids. She could have divorced or gotten an annulment. In her case
the latter might be more likely, though this is speculation.
