What a great time. The bike riding was hard and painful at times. But it was so worth it. I could have gone easier on myself and done probably way less destruction to my legs but I know I wouldn't have been satisfied unless I did.
Day One:
There was a scare of rain and the temperature was rather coolish. Didn't look like it was going to be the best of conditions that morning. As the day progressed however things changed for the better as the sun came out and began to heat land up. It made the riding conditions fantastic. Not to hot and just enough breeze to keep you cool. I forgot to set my watch to time myself to see how long it would take to do the whole thing. It's probably better that I didn't considering I got stuck at one point waiting for my tires to get filled with air for about 30 minutes or so.
I hung out with some friends that afternoon in Gimili that had also been in the tour as well for awhile before heading to Camp Arnes for some mighty fine pool and hot tub action. It was a pretty relaxing day especially at the dinner that was provided that night and with the people I ended up meeting. Sadly I exchanged no emails or phone numbers.
Day Two:
The sleep was good expecting the fact that my skin was getting stuck on this plastic layer that covered the mattress on the bunk I was sleeping on (my guess it was there for the kids that camped there that might wet the bed) and when ever I went to change positions there would be this tugging sensation and then the sound of my pealing off the mattress. Other than that it was fine. I'm sure though that I kept the other person up that was sleeping in the same room as I. I may have been talking in my sleep since I've just been having some of the most intense dreams lately (I woke up crying the other day due to a good friend being turned in zombie and I didn't have it in me to kill her). O well.
The bike ride. Again another really fine day for biking. I met up with one the guys I had met the other day and we decided to ride together. We took turns drafting off one another and this time having company made the ride that much more enjoyable. I timed it out this time and finished the Tour in 3:12hrs.
I now realize that I could do way better if I had some extra features on my bike. I could push myself just as hard and get so much further in less time. New bike for next year is something i'm going to have to think about.
Anyway, I recommend to anyone who read this to do the MS Bike Tour next year. It's not really a race. There's no one actually recording your time and you can take leisurely pace if you want. I'll more thank likely being doing again next year since it was such a fun time.
