Kiesha Update

Feb 27, 2009 14:40

I ended up taking Kiesha to the vet yesterday afternoon. They did a physical examination and everything seemed to be OK. They did notice that the whites of her eyes and the insides of her ears were a little yellow looking so they decided to do a blood test.

They were able to run most of the blood work in their office but had to send some of it off to a lab for further testing. The initial tests showed that her liver is irritated. 2 of her liver enzymes were very high. They don't know what this means. It could be the sign of a liver disease or infection. It could also be do to the current medication she takes for her skin. That medication irritates the liver.

After finding this out the told me to stop giving her the medication for her skin. They decided to give her fluids through an IV and then gave her an antibiotic. This antibiotic they gave her is used to fight off infections in the liver. They gave me some of the antibiotics in a pill form and Kiesha needs to take it twice a day. They also gave me a couple cans of dog food that is for dogs with liver problems for her to eat.

We got home from the vet and Kiesha was very tired. She laid down and slept for a bit. While she was sleeping I pulled out some chicken breast from the freezer and boiled it for her. After she woke up I fed her some of the chicken and she ate it. I was very happy just to see her eat. She didn't eat all of it but quite a bit of it. The rest of the night we just laid around. She woke me up several times through out the night to go outside. Every time she came back in I had a snack for her and she ate the snack every time. She won't eat her regular dog food or the dog food that the vet gave me.

This morning I got up and felt terrible. My cold is horrible right now. Kiesha was still very tired so she stayed in bed. I almost called off of work to stay home with her but I decided to come into work and at least work a half day.

About 15 minutes ago the vet called. The results from the lab had come back. Kiesha's white blood cell count is right were it should be so it doesn't seem like she is fighting off an infection. Good news. Her red blood cell count was in the normal range but a little on the low side. Hopefully nothing to worry about. They want Kiesha to stay on the antibiotics all weekend and they want her to eat some of that dog food they gave me. I might have to mix it in with some of the chicken I boiled to get her to eat it. Kiesha goes back to the vet on Monday morning for a check up. They will probably do another blood test.

It looks like my weekend is going to spent hanging around the house. It is supposed to rain all weekend and start to get cold again. I hope Kiesha starts feeling better soon.
