Until Next Year [3/10] anonymous October 10 2011, 02:16:30 UTC
Psyche attached to his waist now, he shook his head wildly from side to side. "I don't want to say goodbye!"

The oldest pulled back his sleeve and stared blankly at the time staring back at him. Shizuo spoke for him: "It's time?"

"Nn."

Izaya sat up, perfectly composed. He would not crumble. It was just Tsugaru. He had smoke free days to look forward to, didn't he? Well, at least only dealing with Shizu-chan. "Did you say good bye to everybody?"

Tsugaru looked down at the ground, guilty. He scratched the back of his head and his father assumed that was a no.

"Go say goodbye now."

"It's late. I shouldn't wake them up--"

"Go do it."

Tsugaru heaved but did so. As he walked out of the room with Psyche in tow, he sat down on the bed. Shizuo's arm was already over his shoulder.

"You say that but have you said goodbye yet?"

After Tsugaru left, there was a distinct lack of harmony within the house. Maybe it was because Shizu-chan didn't have anybody to talk to except for the nights when he met up with Celty, maybe it was because Psyche no longer had his closest sibling. In any case, things were rowdier and more violent than usual. Psyche acted up, influenced Delic on many occasions and it was with a light heart that everybody was somewhat glad to see the second brunet go. And by everybody, Izaya meant Hibiya, who had endured most of Psyche's sadistic teasing.

But even Hibiya was quiet at Psyche's going away dinner.

Maybe that's what the problem was: it was quiet. Absolutely quiet. Nobody had really said anything. The only sounds were the clattering of silverware against the porcelain plates.

"I wish Tsu-chan were here," Psyche finally choked out.

The gloom lingering over the table only thickened.

"You'll get to see him soon," Izaya reminded.

"And then you'll wish he wasn't around," Delic added. There was a loud thump followed by a squeak from Delic. Hibiya had kicked his shin beneath the table, it seemed. "Or y'know. Whatever."

It was as if Psyche hadn't heard either of them. He looked up and grinned with a shrug. "It's only for now! I'll be back."

The humdrum lightened up at that. Hibiya even smiled a little bit. Hachimenroppi and Tsukishima were still a bit too young to understand everything completely other than Psyche was leaving for a very long time.

"Where is Psyche going?" Tsukishima asked, pulling on Shizuo's sleeve.

Shizuo patted his youngest son's head. Once. Twice. "Away."

"I'm gonna listen to lots of music and then I'm going to make even better music!" Psyche chirped. Izaya rolled his eyes. In other words, Psyche was planning to party a lot. There was only one kind of music his second oldest loved and that was the type blasting all night in a club.

"Studying," Shizuo added with a hint of a threat.

"That, too."

Delic and Hibiya blinked at Psyche, disbelief clearly written all over their faces.

"I can't see Psyche studying," Delic muttered. "Seriously."

Hibiya nodded and added, "Yes. I bet he will flunk out before the second year."

The one leaving pounded his fists and silverware on the table childishly. One Psyche outburst coming right up. "Heyyyy! That's not nice! I'm going to try my hardest!"

"Yeah but how hard is that?" Delic started wiggling his eyebrows but stopped when Shizuo glared at him.

"Disgusting," Hibiya huffed. From there, Psyche spring boarded into a dirty retort to Delic, Shizuo wasn't sure which one to scold first, and Hibiya's snide comments littered the conversation.

"Noisy," Hachimenroppi whispered to Izaya while covering his ears with his palms.

...Ah, so it was.
