Yunho/Jaejoong | pg13
There are a few things that remind Jaejoong of Yunho
stupidfroggie said “military, sea, and maybe (a bit of) angst ? ((:”
and yeah well, this! :D I hope you like it, love.
There are a few things that remind Jaejoong of Yunho; like the salty breeze near the beach, the sea waves that rise and fall rhythmically, the moonlit grains of that sand that gloss over the sea shore. He always associates Yunho with the sea.
He remembers the last time they were together, isolated from everyone and tucked away in some sandy corner of the beach in Yunho’s summer house. Jaejoong had managed to trip on his feet and had a long scar running down his shin.
“Oh, Jaejoong.” Yunho had muttered, bringing out the first aid box and dressing up the wound. “Only you.” Yunho sighed, putting away the box and bringing Jaejoong’s face closer for kisses.
Jaejoong remembers the first time he saw Yunho.
Everyone thinks it’s at his parents’ place when his folks had thrown an anniversary party but actually, it was a couple of days before. Even Yunho isn’t aware of this.
It was on a Tuesday, right outside the ice cream parlour where Jaejoong had promised to treat Changmin for topping his class. Jaejoong had arrived earlier than Changmin and had decided to wait for the younger boy inside. He sat by the window and watched people passing by, minding their own business and there he was. Casually walking by on the pavement opposite, he was dressed in a shirt and a blazer, the lapels of the blazer fluttering as he walked with a slight limp on his right leg. He stopped to check the time on his watch and stood right in Jaejoong’s line of sight.
“Stalking someone again?”
Changmin’s voice shocked Jaejoong and the latter jumped in surprise and frowned at his friend; “You didn’t have to do that!” He had exclaimed turning back to see that the handsome stranger had disappeared much to Jaejoong’s disappointment.
Changmin sat in front of Jaejoong and pulled up the menu; “Okay, let’s see how much I can abuse your wallet.”
Jaejoong sighed as he looked at the spot where the good looking man had been standing and wondered if he would ever see the man again.
His prayers were answered that following weekend when his father had introduced him to Jung Yunho, an ex-army officer who had fought the Korean War when he was younger. Jaejoong watches in awe as Yunho’s eyes crinkled in laughter and he holds his hand out to Jaejoong; “I was just twenty, I don’t why you have to make a big deal out of it.” Jaejoong takes Yunho’s hand and shakes it and Yunho looks at him in amused; “You have a firm grip.” Yunho says, smiling. “A lot can be said about a man by the way he shakes hands.”
The twenty year old had smiled courteously and before he was able make small talk with the man, his father had whisked Jung Yunho away to introduce him to other guests.
Throughout the evening, Jaejoong watches as Yunho attracts the crowds to him, he’s like a warm fire during cold winter nights. Jaejoong wants to, so very badly, talk to Yunho and listen to everything the older man has to say. But, he’s too busy entertaining his mother’s friend’s daughter whose voice is a pitch too annoying and laughter tad too loud.
During dinner, Jaejoong is introduced to a petite lady named Boa. She walked into the party with grace and slender and wrapped her hand around Yunho’s arm and smiled at him as he leaned in to peck her cheek. She was Yunho’s wife of fifteen years and, in Jaejoong’s eyes, she was more than worthy of holding the title of being Yunho’s wife.
“You don’t know what it’s like to be married to an Army man, Hyejin.” Boa jokes with Jaejoong’s mother. “He lives by a routine. And gets real grumpy if he doesn’t follow it.”
Jaejoong’s watches as Yunho’s handsome lit up in humour; “Habits. You can’t break them.” Yunho had shrugged.
Guests had slowly started to trickle off and it made Jaejoong happier that Yunho and his wife stayed back, upon his father’s insistence of course, but still.
“You and Hyejin must come visit our summer house this vacation.” Yunho says when everyone had left and his family sat with Yunho and Boa for some late night ice cream and scotch. “I insist, Dongwoo, you keep saying you’ll come and you don’t. Bring Jaejoong also.”
Jaejoong straightens up at the sound of his name being called and turns to Yunho. “You like the beach, right?” And for the first time in the entire night, Jung Yunho’s attention is on Jaejoong; something sinks in Jaejoong’s gut when he locks eye contact with Yunho. “Uh,” He manages. “Yeah. I love the beach.”
“Great then, it’s settled.” Yunho says with a grand smile. “We’ll go on a getaway trip.”
When Jung Yunho has to leave, he shakes Jaejoong’s hand again. “It was a pleasure meeting you, Jaejoong.” Yunho had said.
The next day when Jaejoong meets up with Changmin, he leans on the wall of his college and sighs; “I am in love.”
Summer rolled in and the Kim family packs up and leave for Yunho’s summer house by the beach. It was a two hour drive and Jaejoong sat through the whole ride, humming to the trot songs his dad played and patiently waiting to meet Yunho.
He hadn’t seen Yunho since the day of the party and he hadn’t stopped thinking about the man either. Jaejoong couldn’t actually point out what it was about Yunho that made him so attractive to the twenty year old.
“Glad you could make it.” Boa welcomes the Kim family into their beach house; it’s a cosy little place, tucked away in an inaccessible corner of the beach. “People don’t usually come to this corner.” Yunho says, showing them around the place. “So, we’re good.”
Yunho shows them to their rooms; “I hope you like your room, Jaejoong.” Yunho says, leading him to a room that overlooks the beach.
“I love it.” Jaejoong replies, walking in and opening the balcony door. He can tasty the salt in the wind when he takes a deep breath. “I don’t know about you.” Yunho says, leaning on the balcony. “But when I was your age, I loved going to the beach and watching the waves - it helped me find peace.”
Jaejoong looks over his shoulder and smiles at Yunho, the rays of sun make Yunho look ethereal. “You don’t look like you are forty.” Jaejoong blurts before he can stop himself. “Sorry.” He says, feeling his ears warm up.
Yunho laughs; it’s deep and rumbles like the thunder. “I am not quite forty.” Yunho says, smiling softly. “I am thirty six.”
“I’d think you were twenty nine.” Jaejoong says, looking up at Yunho.
“Ah, you flatter me.” Yunho smiles, reaching out and ruffling Jaejoong’s hair; his fingers curls around Jaejoong’s hair and stays on his head for a moment too long and Jaejoong wants to whine loudly when Yunho pulls his hand away.
“Shall we go out and barbeque?” Yunho asks, walking out of the room. Jaejoong sighs loudly and plops on his bed, Yunho’s handsome smile etched on the inside of his head.
Its forty five minutes past eleven and Jaejoong is tossing and turning on his bed; it’s not that he’s uncomfortable; it’s just that he cannot stop thinking about Yunho. He knows the man is two rooms away, probably in deep slumber, curled around his pretty wife, maybe even snoring a little. Jaejoong laughs a little. He’s never been more infatuated with anyone.
Couple more minutes passes and Jaejoong gets frustrated, he rolls out of his bed and heads out of the beach house. He figures a walk along the shore may help him. He tiptoes out of door and yelps when he sees Yunho standing out and studying Jaejoong.
“Shit, you scared me, Yunho-sshi.” Jaejoong says, clutching his chest when Yunho chuckles. He’s wearing his casual tee and a knee length shorts, his hair is a mess but he looks so handsome; handsome enough to make Jaejoong swoon.
“Couldn’t sleep?” Yunho asks, taking a drag of his cigarette.
Jaejoong watches as the cigarette dangles between Yunho’s lips and the way his lips curl around the cigarette butt sparks something in Jaejoong’s abdomen and the way the smoke spirals around his face after Yunho blows it out, makes Yunho look infinitely more beautiful.
“You want one?” Yunho asks, holding out the packet.
“I don’t- “
“I won’t tell Dongwoo.” Yunho says, rolling his eyes. “I was twenty once, Jaejoong. You can smoke.”
Jaejoong grins mischievously and pulls one out of the packet. “Thanks.” He says.
“Shall we go out for a walk?” Yunho asks, gesturing out to the shore. “The moon is out and the beach looks really inviting.”
“Let’s.” Jaejoong replies.
“But I am afraid you’re going to have to walk a little slowly.” Yunho laughs when Jaejoong brisk walks onto the shore. “I am an old man with a limp.” He says, pointing to the scar on his knee.
“Sorry.” Jaejoong smiles, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly. “I will match you step by step.”
“Thank you.” Yunho smiles.
They walk in silence for the longest time; they walk till the beach house seems like a speck in the dark of the night. The waves crashing on the shore and Yunho’s steady breathing are the only sounds Jaejoong can hear and the only ones he wants to concentrate on.
“Let’s sit for a while?” Yunho says, breaking the silence.
“Hmm.” Jaejoong hums and nods his head. Yunho sits down next to Jaejoong and winces as he stretches out his wounded leg. Jaejoong stares at the scar that runs along Yunho’s knee down to his calf muscle, it’s a deep cut and Jaejoong can only imagine who much it would have pained Yunho.
“It was an accident.” Yunho says when he notices Jaejoong staring.
Jaejoong jerks up and looks at Yunho. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to stare.”
Yunho waves it off. “During my service at the army, I had to face some scary encounters; face offs with escaped convicts, shoot outs, living in some unbearable conditions, even fought a bloody war.” Yunho chuckles distastefully. “And I had to retire because of a silly accident, life is funny, no?”
“I am sorry.” Jaejoong says pathetically because, that’s all he can manage. “Don’t be, Jaejoong." Yunho replies, with a smile. "I am not angry, I don’t regret anything. I am being one of those annoying grown-ups and telling you that life takes turns in the funniest and most unexpected ways.”
“You were right.” Jaejoong nearly snorts. “You are being an annoying adult.”
Yunho laughs loudly; “Brat.” He says.
By the time both of them reach the beach house, it’s a half past one and neither of them are least bit tired. They sit around on the porch making small talk about Jaejoong’s future and his college, how he wants to become a writer and Yunho’s time at the army.
“I’m gay.” Jaejoong blurts.
They are near the shore, watching the skies getting lighter with each crash of the wave. Yunho looks grand silhouetted by the morning light and Jaejoong wants to compliment him but he ends up telling Yunho a secret so well hidden even his best friend doesn’t know.
Yunho turns to look at him and much to Jaejoong’s pleasant shock, Yunho doesn’t look surprised neither does he look disgusted; in fact there is a small smile playing on his lips.
“I know.” Yunho says softly.
“What?” Jaejoong frowns.
Yunho leans down and cups the younger boy’s face and presses a soft kiss on Jaejoong’s lips and in all of his twenty years, he’s never welcomed the rising sun more happily.
“We can’t keep doing this.” Yunho whispers breathlessly but he still peppers Jaejoong with kisses. Jaejoong smiles into the kiss.
They’re supposed to be finding a blanket to lay out on the beach so all of them can sit down by the beach.
“Yunho-yah!” Boa calls out from the living room. “Any luck with the blanket?”
“Found one!” Yunho calls out, pulling a blanket from Jaejoong’s makeshift cupboard. “Let’s go.” Yunho whispers, slotting his lips against Jaejoong’s
They meet each other again in the night; at exactly forty five minutes past eleven.
“What about your wife?” Jaejoong asks when he’s warming himself in Yunho’s arms.
“She knows.” Yunho grins against Jaejoong’s ear. “After fifteen years, it’s not a marriage - it’s an understanding.”
Jaejoong looks up and kisses Yunho.
On the last night of their weekend, Yunho holds Jaejoong’s hand and leads him to other side of the beach; “Surprise?” Yunho grins.
There’s a nice little yacht with a JYH carved in silver lettering, its expensive looking and lavishly decorated. Jaejoong turns to Yunho with an incredulous look. “Something I bought for myself two years ago - I was going through this phase.”
Jaejoong laughs and runs towards it. “This is gorgeous.” He says, jumping in. “Wow, you’ve laid out a table and everything.”
“Yes.” Yunho says, slowly climbing up. “The least I could I do for you.”
“You didn’t have to.”
“I wanted to.” Yunho smiles. “And besides, I don’t know when I am going to see you next.”
“Don’t say that.” Jaejoong frowns and walks up to the older man, presses their body together and kisses Yunho. It’s a slow and languid kiss, neither of them are in a hurry to let go, they are taking their time with each other. Jaejoong can taste the salt of the ocean on Yunho’s lips and he sighs into the kiss.
“Would you like some - “
“No.” Jaejoong says burying his head into Yunho’s neck.
“But - “
Jaejoong shushes Yunho and kisses him along the column of his neck. “Don’t say anything.” He whispers. He feels Yunho taking a sharp breath when he nips at his collar bones. “Jaejoong- “
“Please don’t say anything.” Jaejoong says and pulls back; he takes hold of Yunho’s hand and pulls him inside the cabin on the yacht. They kiss and kiss till Jaejoong is pushing Yunho on to the mattress and climbing over him. Jaejoong supports himself on his arms placed on either side of Yunho’s head and they kiss and kiss and kiss. Yunho spreads his legs apart so Jaejoong could rest in between them. Jaejoong moans loudly into the kiss when Yunho’s fingers find their way under Jaejoong’s shirt.
Their hips move together beautifully and there is a delicious heat that travels down Jaejoong’s spine and settles in his guts. Yunho’s unbuttoning Jaejoong’s shorts and slipping his fingers inside his boxers. Jaejoong gasps loudly and allows Yunho touch him.
“Oh Officer Jung.” Jaejoong gasps loudly, overwhelmed by Yunho’s scent taking over his senses. “You’re going to rock my boat, aren’t you?” He asks, chuckling.
Yunho barks out a laugh and pulls Jaejoong down for a kiss; “I will only if you want me to.”
“I want you to.” Jaejoong whispers harshly when Yunho’s thumb rubs across his head. “I have wanted you to ever since we’ve met.”
(Even if Jaejoong’s parents see the red marks across his chest the following day, they really don’t say anything.)
Jaejoong doesn’t meet Yunho till after his college graduation; he’s on a trip with his college friends enjoying the waves of the beach when he spots a very familiar silhouette slightly limping along the shore.
“I knew it was you!” Jaejoong says, running to and catching up with Yunho.
“Jaejoong!” Yunho’s eyes widen in happiness. “Look at you!”
They hug tightly and smile widely till their cheeks and jaws are hurting. “What are you doing here?”
“I am here with friends.” Jaejoong says pointing out to a large group of boys and girls loudly splashing water on each other.
“Ah, so young.” Yunho sighs.
“Are you here with - “
“Nope, I am here all alone. Needed to get away from everyone.”
“Of course.” Jaejoong nods. “So,” He fumbles with his words. “I was thinking, you know if you want to - “
“I would love to have dinner with you, Jaejoong.” Yunho smiles.
And he is still the same handsome Yunho Jaejoong had seen at his parents' place nearly a year and a half ago. With the wide grin that made his eyes twinkle, the same broad shoulders and strong arms and the same scar running down his leg.
“Go on, have fun with your friends. You can spend time with me later.” Yunho says, pushing Jaejoong away a little. “You know where to find me.”
Jaejoong grins; “Catch you later.” He says and right before he’s about to take off, he holds Yunho’s bicep and pulls him closer. “Also, I forgot.” Jaejoong says, leaning up to kiss Yunho and take his breath away. “Hi.”
“And bye.” Yunho grins, kissing him again and pushing Jaejoong off.
“I never told you.” Jaejoong says, lighting up his cigarette and shivering as the cold breeze erupts goose bumps all over his naked body.
“Told me what?” Yunho asks, sitting up against the headboard and lighting his own cigarette.
“What I think about your scar?”
“What about it?” Yunho asks, with a frown.
“I think it’s beautiful. Just like the rest of you.”
Yunho laughs, his eyes crinkle with humour and he leans down to kiss Jaejoong for the millionth time that night. “You’re so cute.”
“What? I’m serious. You don’t believe me?”
“I am covered in bruises and wounds, why would I be beautiful?”
“That’s what makes you, you!” Jaejoong sounds exasperated. He sits up hurriedly and turns to Yunho. “The little scars on your face.” Jaejoong says, touching the soft dents on Yunho’s face. “The scars on your hand, the tiny mole on your upper lip, that little dimple you get on your butt, the scar on your knee - hell, even the way you limp. You’re so perfect, godammit.”
Yunho stares at Jaejoong in wonder; “You’ve only slept with me twice and - “
“That’s because I love you.” Jaejoong says.
He’s said a lot of embarrassing things to Yunho previously and even though, he blurts this one out too, he is the least bit embarrassed.
“Jaejoong - “
“Don’t give me all that you are too young to fall in love crap because, heavens know I know love you. I love you madly truly deeply. And even though we don’t meet often or talk often, there is not a day that passes by when I don’t think about you. Hell, for all my writing pieces, you are my protagonist. You are my muse. You are literally the rock solid center of my changing world.”
Yunho doesn’t say anything, just curls his fingers around Jaejoong’s nape and pulls him close for a kiss. Even if Jaejoong’s tastes Yunho’s salty tears, he doesn’t say anything because he knows Yunho would hate it.
“I am off.” Jaejoong says, the next day.
“When do I see you next?”
“I am not sure.” Jaejoong says sadly. “I got accepted for this writing program in London and my parents really want me to take it up - “
“As you should.”
“But what about you - “
“I am done, Jaejoong.” Yunho says, fixing the young boy’s shirt. “Time for me to stretch my legs and watch the sea.”
“You’re not that old, Yunho.” Jaejoong says.
“I know.” Yunho chuckles. “But, I’ve done everything I’ve ever wanted to do in my life. And don’t make me the reason to hold you back. Go, live your life. Write stories. Let the world marvel your work.”
“And anyway,” Yunho smiles as he pulls Jaejoong in for a kiss. “I’ll always be with you in your writing, no?”
“Brat.” Jaejoong laughs and kisses Yunho once more.
It’s been nearly eight years since he saw Yunho and he knows that wherever Yunho is, Yunho is happy and content. Probably at his summer house, sitting out on the porch smoking his usual cigarette, sipping on scotch and making fun of Boa. He thinks Yunho may miss him, probably thinks of him at night, especially at forty five minutes past eleven.
And when he comes out with his first book, he writes in his dedication page: At forty five minutes past eleven, you really did rock my boat. I love you. I still do. I think of you, I haven’t stopped. You know who you are and I know you are going to buy this book and read it. I know you will.
(“Brat, I don’t have hairy legs!” Yunho says, shutting the book.
Jaejoong hums as he lifts the blankets off Yunho’s legs; “You were saying?”
“No sex for you.”
Jaejoong screams in protest. “Hey!”)
a/n: major tenses fuck up but I kind of really like this, I am not even sure why? It’s a happy ending.
