Yunho/Yoochun | R
he was supposed to meet Changmin; not Yunho

previous

The June air in Paris is hot, blustery and a little romantic. Honestly, to Jaejoong, everything in Paris is romantic. Paris is romantic.

Jaejoong spots a quiet café tucked away in some corner; it’s a serene looking building with red bricks and vines growing all over its clothed roof. He walks into the café and allows himself to be surrounded by the warmth of the indoors. There is a strong aroma of coffee that’s wafting around the place.

“Hello, welcome to - “

A young Korean boy stands at the doorway to the pantry and he looks stunned when he looks at Jaejoong. His French is thickly accented and Jaejoong can see right through his nervousness.

“Are you Korean?” The boy asks in Hangeul and when Jaejoong nods, he heaves a heavy sigh. “Please tell you can speak Hangeul. I am dying to hear some home language. “

Jaejoong laughs; “How long have you been here for?” His native language is thick on his tongue and Jaejoong feels a little tingly. He hasn’t spoken to anyone in Korean in nearly over a year. Text messages and emails to Yoochun don’t count.

“A little over six months.” The boy says, leans on the counter and Jaejoong likes how the boy’s white shirt sticks to his biceps. “I came here for an internship and took up this as a part time job.”

“How are you coping so far?”

“Meh.” The boy shrugs. “Can’t complain. I am learning slowly and steadily. My roommate teaches me French.”

“Hmm.” Jaejoong hums. “Can I order?”

“Oh sure.” The boy grins and stands up to his height. “What do you want?”

“An espresso shot and a chocolate croissant. To go, please.”

The boy behind the counter smiles with ease and Jaejoong watches him glide around the place to get his order fixed. “Here you go.” He places the espresso and croissant and along with it, a bar of chocolate.

“I didn’t ask for the - “

“I know.” The boy says. “It’s on the house. It’s not every day I get such good looking customers like you.”

Jaejoong’s cheeks grow warmer and as he pays for his order and pockets the chocolate. “Thank you.” He says. “I am Kim Jaejoong, by the way.”

“Jung Yunho.”

+

Yunho’s not even surprised when Jaejoong turns up the next day and the day after that and the day after that. They make small talk every day about the weather and the food and about home and how much the both of them missed home cooked meals. Till one day;

“So - like, when do you get off?” Jaejoong asks, leaning over the counter as Yunho bills Jaejoong’s order. Yunho looks at him through his eyelashes and smiles; his smile is so shy, Jaejoong wants to lean further in and kiss it.

“I can leave now, you just need to ask.”

“Do you want to go out for a movie with me?”

“Yes.”

+

When Yunho asks Jaejoong to move in with him, their relationship is a few weeks old and Jaejoong stares at him with wide eyes; “What?”

“What? We should find a place together. It’s going to be fun. We can have all the fun we want without worrying about my roommate walking in on us.”

“Yunho, we just started dating.” Jaejoong says but he cannot resist that pout on Yunho’s lips “I know.” Yunho mumbles, leaning into Jaejoong and pressing soft kisses. “Think of all the fun we can have.” He mumbles and Jaejoong swears Yunho is the devil.

+

Living with Yunho is as easy as breathing; he’s the best roommate Jaejoong’s had in every way possible and Jaejoong means in every way possible. Yunho’s so accommodative and understanding and loving and caring. And all he asks in returns is for cuddles, affection, love and maybe a little Kimchi because he misses home that much.

Yunho leaves Jaejoong little-little surprises around their small house; things like post-its stuck to the refrigerator, or Jaejoong’s favourite chocolate slipped into his jacket pocket when he is not looking. Sometimes, Yunho pops into Jaejoong’s class during break and steals him away for quiet lunches and soft kisses.

And what scares Jaejoong the most, is that he’s getting so comfortable and so used to the idea of Yunho always being there; it’s almost like he’s forgotten what it is like to live without Yunho.

Jaejoong has always lived his life the way he’s wanted to and never has he actually been dependent on anyone nor has he cared about anyone’s opinions. And sure, he’s had partners and lovers in the past, but never someone he was so serious with.
Albeit being a threat to his carefree, detached attitude; Yunho was a breath of fresh air to Jaejoong’s life.

+

But when Yunho confesses his love to Jaejoong is when there are warning bells ringing through Jaejoong’s head.

“What.” Jaejoong deadpans.

“I love you.” Yunho smiles easily as he cuts through his pancakes. It’s been six months since they started dating so this should be normal. Couples do fall in love with each other even if they didn’t start off seriously. It’s usual, normal, expected.

Jaejoong does not do usual. Normal. Or expected.

And it hurts Jaejoong so much when Yunho kisses him with such sincerity and Jaejoong knows Yunho is simple and uncomplicated and Yunho wants nothing more from this relationship but Jaejoong’s love and attention.

He knows that if he discusses this with Yoochun, his best friend would reply in angry uppercase words asking Jaejoong to SHUT THE FUCK UP AND PLEASE FALL IN LOVE LIKE A NORMAL PERSON. So he strikes out the option of telling Yoochun anything. He sends him normal everyday mails like he used to. And somehow manages to completely avoid Yunho’s topic.

“Is something bothering you?” Yunho asks Jaejoong one weekend, when they are lying on the bed spending a lazy day at home.

Jaejoong flips to his side and runs his hand through Yunho’s soft brown hair. Yunho tilts his head and kisses Jaejoong’s palm. “How are you so simple?” Jaejoong sighs, pulling Yunho closer. “There has to be a catch.”

“What do you mean?” Yunho asks, burying his face into the crook of Jaejoong’s neck. “I am a simple man. I live a simple life. What’s the need for complications?”

“I don’t know I am not used to simple.” Jaejoong says and before Yunho can say anything, Jaejoong pulls him closer and kisses him full on the lips.

“Don’t ever change.” Jaejoong whispers in between kisses.

“I won’t. As long as you are with me, I won’t. ” Yunho replies before slipping his fingers in between Jaejoong’s.

“Jaejoong.”

“Hmm.”

“Marry me?”

+

There is a heavy silence that hangs around the room after Changmin and Junsu slip out. Jaejoong sniffs silently standing beside Yunho; “Yoochun- “

“No wait, I am going to talk first.” Yoochun says, interrupting Jaejoong. “I think it’s about time we clear this mess.”

Yunho and Jaejoong nod, almost nervously. Yoochun’s gaze ping pongs between Yunho’s and Jaejoong’s face and he sighs loudly. “Okay, okay.” Yoochun says, balling his fists. “I think whatever we have here is a clear case of miscommunication. And it’s not like this is unforgivable or whatever, you know? I mean everyone makes mistakes, we’re human after all.” Yoochun shrugs.

“Yunho, let’s take a walk.” Yoochun says, looking at the taller man.

“Sure.” Yunho tries a small smile, glances at Jaejoong and walks out of the apartment with Yoochun.

“Look, Yoochun - I am really sorry about what happened, I mean I should have told you but - “

“Yunho, I want you to relax for a bit here okay? Let’s get some fresh air, maybe some coffee and then we can talk this out.”

Yunho nods and they silently walk together; Yunho’s bursting to talk, he has a lot to tell Yoochun, he wants to apologize and clear up everything, he wants to tell Yoochun everything about him and Jaejoong - from how they met to how they broke up to how Yunho was so angry with Jaejoong but he keeps quiet till Yoochun clears his throat and looks to Yunho.

“I know you have a lot to explain but, lemme just get this off my chest first, okay?”

Yunho nods.

“I was - I am really disappointed but not in you but in Jaejoong. I mean, I have known him since we were wearing diapers and I really expected him to at least let me know that you guys shared a past, you know?” Yoochun sighs.

“I like what we have, Yunho.” Yoochun stares at Yunho in the eye. “You’re fun to be with, you’re so caring and kind and little lost, but that’s okay. And I am ready to look past this - whatever this is, only because I knew that the both of were quiet about your past because you didn’t want to hurt my feelings.”

Yunho lets out a heavy sigh and pulls Yoochun into a tight hug; “You’re amazing, you know that, right?”

Yoochun grins into the other’s man chest; “Yeah, I am pretty fucking amazing. You owe me like a million kisses.”

Yunho grins widely and presses a kiss to the side of Yoochun’s head. “But, I want you to know that, whatever Jaejoong and I shared is buried deep in the past now and yes, I might have a soft spot for him but that’s only because we nearly got married.”

“Woah! Wait. Hold up, what?!”

Yunho sighs heavily; “This is going to be a long talk.” He nods.

The sky is breaking into dawn by the time Yoochun steps into Jaejoong’s apartment. He finds Jaejoong dozing off on the sofa, his arms hanging off the edge. His mobile looks like it rolled off by the way it’s inches away from Jaejoong’s hand. Yoochun smiles a little and walks over to his best friend and slowly pats Jaejoong on his cheek; “Jae. Hey, Jaejoong.”

Jaejoong groans and his eyes flutter open and the moment he spots his Yoochun, they grow wide and he shoots up. “Yoochun! Yoochun, oh my God, you are here.” He jumps up and hugs the composer. “I thought you were never coming back.”

“Come on, go sleep on your bed. You’re going to get horrible back aches if you sleep here.” Yoochun suggests, offering Jaejoong a hand.

Jaejoong stares at Yoochun’s hand for a while and looks back up at Yoochun, fat tears in his eyes. “I am sorry, Yoochun.” He sniffs, clutching on to his sofa. “I know I should have told you about Yunho. I know I should have but, I don’t know why I didn’t. I am horrible friend, aren’t I?”

“Yes you are.” Yoochun sighs and sits down next to Jaejoong. “But I know where you are coming from. Yunho told me everything and, I know I am supposed to be mad at you. And Yunho. But I can’t. I can’t force myself to be angry at you. I don’t know if it is my compassionate nature or that I know you too well to know that you didn’t tell me because I would break it off with Yunho.”

Jaejoong wipes away his tears on his eyelashes and leans in forward to hug Yoochun; “Thank you.” He sighs, tearing again. “Thank you. I love you.”

Yoochun tightens the hug; “I love you too.” He says. “Now, seriously, get to bed. I don’t want to listen to you whining about your bad ache.”

the epilogue

“You look good.”

Yunho turns on his heels and spots Jaejoong standing behind him holding two flutes of champagne; “You too.” Yunho smiles. “Didn’t see you come in. Where were you the whole ceremony?”

“Woke up late.” Jaejoong shrugs and hands a glass to Yunho.

“Liar.” Yunho smiles, taking the glass. “What is it about weddings that scare you so much?”

Jaejoong grins and takes a sip; “If I told you, I’d have to kill you.”

“You wouldn’t kill me.” Yunho replies. There is some sort of look in his eyes - Jaejoong thinks its pride. The way he’s looking at Jaejoong. “And why is it that I can’t kill you?” Jaejoong asks.

“You love me too much.” Yunho says, walking towards Jaejoong. He pokes Jaejoong on his chest and smiles. “That thing beating inside you. And I know you have one of those, Kim Jaejoong, that thing has taken a particular liking for me. It allows only certain people in and I’ve gotten in it without your permission and I am staying.” Yunho grins.

Jaejoong looks at Yunho’s handsome, well chiselled face and he wants to do nothing but punch it till Yunho is black and blue in the face. “You are lucky Yoochun loves you or else I would have punched you by now.”

“No, you wouldn’t have.” Yunho smiles and wraps an arm around Jaejoong’s shoulders. “Come on; let’s announce to everyone present you are here.”

+

“You made it!” Junsu nearly shrieks. He runs to Jaejoong, leaving Changmin to attend to the guests. “I was so sure you were not going to come.”

“And miss my favourite dongsaeng selling his soul to the devil. I don’t think so.”

“I like being called the devil; makes me feel sexier.” Changmin steps into the conversation. “Good of you to come, Hyung. I won Junsu, pay up.”

Junsu frowns slightly and pulls out money bills from his pockets and hands it over Changmin. “You guys actually betted against me?” Jaejoong frowns.

“Didn’t think you would actually come for a wedding, Jaejoong.” Yoochun laughs, walking over and wrapping his arm around Yunho’s waist.

“Oh old joke, guys.” Jaejoong rolls his eyes. “I don’t like hate weddings, you know?”

“Given that you ran away from your own, I would guess you do.” Yunho shrugs and Jaejoong makes a face at the taller man. “Get over it, Jung. Where is the alcohol bar, I am starving.”

Jaejoong heads over to the bar, seats himself and watches Changmin and Junsu attend to guests; they make a good couple. Changmin loves to pull Junsu’s leg and Junsu has a knack to shut Changmin up every now and then. Contrary to popular belief, it was Junsu who proposed to Changmin on a romantic dinner. The ring was skilfully hidden in the cake Junsu knew Changmin was going to order. Changmin, to date, sticks to the story that; “No, I was not crying. There was dust in my eyes.” No one wants to argue with him. They’re one of those meant to be couples or whatever the hell you call them, Jaejoong thinks.

On the other end of the huge backyard, he spots Yoochun and Yunho snuggled together at their table. Yoochun is whispering something into Yunho’s ears and by the look in Yunho’s eyes, Jaejoong make out it’s a something hilarious and witty. He never thought Yoochun and Yunho would work, Yoochun was too much of an inside person and Yunho was always about outdoor. They were nearly polar opposites. But, Jaejoong guesses the both of them decided to meet half and work it through. They have been dating for the past one and half years now and Jaejoong wonder when (if) and how is Yunho going to pop the question.

Jaejoong realizes he’s staring and he’s about to look away when Yunho’s eyes catch him. Jaejoong nods and raises his glass in cheers and Yunho smiles grandly in return. He, too, raises his glass and sends a wink in Jaejoong’s direction.

goddamn it, Jung Yunho!

a/n: FORGIVE ME! DD:
My muse was dead for so long and I don’t blame you at all if you’ve forgotten this fic! I am quite pleased with the ending. It’s sort of ~open ended~ and kind of not?

To explain YunJae’s relationship, they love each other but not really in that “I love you so much omg I am going to get back with you this instant because you are dating my best friend” kind of way nO it’s more like they are comfortable with each other on many levels. And the ending is very naughty nice kind of thing!

Actually, tell me what you think about the ending without your biases coming in the way. I would love to know.

Hope you’ll had a lovely Christmas! Happy holidays! ♥

OH OH OH also,

Happy 10years of TVXQ to you! ♥
