The Bells are Ringing

Even though she's more eager than she cares to admit to see how her dress came out, Meredith pushes on through her classes before she goes to see Ianto and pick it up. That Sookie's suggestion wound up working out doesn't surprise her; if anything, she feels silly for not having thought of it sooner, but that doesn't matter now. She has the dress, after all. For months, they've waited, pushing back the wedding for this reason or that, and now she has it, the dress that means they can finally stop hemming and hawing and pick a date. They have the dress, they have the rings, they're ready.

She's not, admittedly, looking forward to all the arrangements, the picking of flowers and food, the sending of invitations. She's no good at those things. For that, Izzie should be here, pushing everything into place. It's never been the wedding itself that Meredith cared about. What she's wanting is what comes after, more than she would once have ever expected. But then, a lot's changed in the last two and a half years. If it takes a lot of detail work fussing over a social occasion, then that's the least of the obstacles they've had to overcome to get here.

With the dress in question bundled neatly in her arms, Meredith hurries home, careful as can be to dodge Doc in the yard so he won't get it dirty or sink his teeth into it (she's tried, she really has, and he's doing a lot better, but she's starting to think he'll never really understand clothes aren't for eating). Once at the door, she edges inside, calling out, "Sean?"

It's just a bunch of white cloth, soft and gauzy, but it's also another step closer at long last.
