"It's not fair, Al."

"What, niisan?"

"That we lose family as quickly as we gain it."

"…I really miss Hughes, niisan."

"Me too."

In this world you tried
not leaving me alone, behind

"What's that in your pocket, niisan?"

"Nothing, Al."

"Come on, it must be something, you've been holding it all afternoon."

A photograph. Folded in half, tucked into Ed's pocket when he wasn't really paying attention. On the back: "You only wish you were this cute. - Maes" He was holding Elysia, looking like the picture of ultimate happiness.

"I didn't even realize I had this until I went to wash my coat. Hughes…"

"…Niisan, I wish I could cry."

Ed cried for him.

Reminds me again it's worth it all
so I can go home

They got a package later that day, hand delivered by Roy.

"Here. He'd want…This is for you."

Roy was gone before Ed could think to ask what was tucked into the soft white handkerchief, MAES stitched into the corner.

"Niisan, it's the picture frame we got him for his birthday. It's…all of us." Mustang, Hawkeye, Farman, Fuery, Havoc, Hughes and his adopted sons, all standing around some overblown statue of the Fuhrer. Grinning, to varying degrees. Comfortable. "What should we do with it?"

Ed put it next to the picture he'd found in his pocket.

"Remember."

Together in all these memories
I see your smile all the time
All the memories I hold dear
