The new quarter by all rights should be kicking my ass, but I'm on the second week and so far everything seems good.
I'm taking advanced versions of both classes I took last quarter with the same professors I had last quarter. What made one of them (Finite Elements) so rough was that it routinely had 50 page homework assignments, which the professor I shouldn't have to worry so much about this time around. The other (Nonlinear Elasticity) was based on a set of course notes that aren't nearly as organized as the ones we've got this time, and asked us to take on faith a lot of theorems we wouldn't learn until now.
On top of those, I'm sitting in on two undergrad classes (Statics & Mechanics of Materials) because I'm going to be teaching one of them this summer and I need to see how someone else teaches them and learn the curriculum. I'm also taking an education class that meets Wednesday nights. Fortunately, I'm not getting graded on either of the undergrad classes and the education class is pass/fail, so I can let them slide a little if things get tough.
Oh, and we're founding a student chapter of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and I'm been getting pretty involved with that. I helped write a constitution that we'll be voting on later tonight, and we've got officer elections coming up in a month that I've got my eye on too.
Am I nuts? Ask me again when it's over, but here's hoping it all works out for the better. I can't wait to start teaching this summer!
