Thanks, Tax Man!
We did our taxes this past week. I started freaking out when I realized that OSU never withheld anything from my fellowship (which was more than 3/4 of our income for last year), but I didn't want to tell Liz about it until I'd crunched all the numbers.
Turns out I was right to wait. There was an "American Opportunity Credit" we were eligible for that paid $1000 to offset her college expenses, and a "Making Work Pay Credit" that paid $800 pretty much just for having a job and making less than $150k/year. So all said, we ended up with a pretty sizable refund.
Y'know what? I'm bolding those just so nobody who reads this misses them when they file. Our numbers were double because we were married and filing jointly, but that's still a lot of money that could help everyone.

Unrelated: I googled Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" because of the equation people were becoming fans of on Facebook, and now I can't get it out of my head. Talk about a catchy song.
