someone help me out with this...
why is it that people seem to think that if a band is on metropolis or beggars banquet or subpop or saddle creek or whatever, that the band is *independent*?!?!?!
independent means no label. self release. self promote. a la fugazi, current 93, "plan 9" era misfits, psychic TV etc. etc. ...you get the picture.
there really isn't any difference in how a smaller label and a major label operate and treat their bands in the most basic sense, and there isn't much of a difference in "creative control" although the filtering takes place via slightly different mechanisms. the only *real* difference is the number of dollars involved.
