I know its a sad time for many Americans. Its hard for me to get into a sad or even dispirited or melancholoy-ness.
Thankfully, while Brian and I did know 5 people on the plane that hit the Pentagon none were more than casual aquaintances. I DO feel sympathy for their families.

For me this is a time of great joy. Ten years ago on Sept. 2 Brian and I got married. Today, Virgil is one month old. Tomorrow is my brother's birthday. Last weekend my cousin got married to a wonderful woman. And this past week my Great Aunt just danced at her grandson's wedding, held Virgil and turned 94 years old.

I just can't help think of the last ten years and the past month/week and smile with joy. For me the saddest thing right now is that my own Grandmother died years ago (a victim of smoking - along with the groom's father) while her twin sister is still quite spry for a woman in her 90s.

But then I look down at Virgil in his sling, or Perry reading on the couch and I just can't help but be filled with love and joy and happiness.

news, self-reflection
