Is there anyone that you have met who has failed to show you the respect you feel you deserve?
For him, respect is a weapon to be wielded. Sometimes he twirls it around like a child with a water gun as if he could take on the world just with that alone, and there were other moments he lobbed it at an unsuspecting victim with the full on, brutal force somene might throw a brick through a paned glass window. He does not take no for an answer except for the few times in which it pleases him to do so, nor does he indicate when these times will be. It confuses those around him more than it does him, and that is more pleasing than a simple kind of answer might be.
And for years she was convinced that he didn't respect her at all, that he used the time they had spent together in the past as an equal kind of weapon over her, to make her remember what he wanted her to and forget the same things when that might serve him better, too. But time had been a double edged sword, and time made her question his motives. What good would it be to cut a person down in a position of power if that power was not desired for themselves? What would it mean, what would it matter?
Then the pieces came together and made less sense before, but in those moments of less sense Cuddy found herself wondering if he respected her more than he did anyone else, and that was why he continued to allow nothing to be easy for her. Because why would someone respect someone who wasn't strong enough to make it through those kinds of trials?
