"In this great future, you can forget your past..."

And I hope to do just that. My classes have been going well this summer. i have a 95% in my "Ancient and Medieval Heritage" (Western Civilisations 1), and probably about the same in my Intro to Political Science class, after getting a 93% on the first exam. 6 hours of class a day are killing me. I haven't had to force myself to concentrate this hard since watching "Desperate Housewives." just kidding. but definitely not since high school have i spend so much of my day in class. I get home at 7 and my day is pretty much shot. The break I get in the middle of the day is nice, but too long to hang around, and too short to come back and get a decent nap.

I have an upcoming book report in my history course, for which I chose to read about Alexander the Great, my middlenamesake. Unfortunately, a book with big red letters saying "Alexander the Great" ended up not being about him at all. Rather, it was about a little-known historian who wrote about him. I figured this out about 35 pages into the book, and had to return to Barnes & Noble to pick up another, significantly larger book with fewer pictures. I was pretty pissed. Why title a book about a person with whom it has almost nothing to do? Regardless, I have a lot of reading to tackle in the next week or so.

With my early success in these classes, I'm trying to forget about the fiasco that was my career in the business school. Granted, my GPA wasn't horrible, it's certainly been sub-par for my level of intelligence (not to brag, those who know me will agree). I'm looking forward to my very brief, albeit packed, career in political science. This does not mean, however, that I have not enjoyed parts of these past couple years. I've made at least a couple friends in the business school, and quite a few in my dorm, but most importantly, of course, Lauren.

Whom, I might add, just set herself up with a really cool two-bedroom apartment on the seventh floor of a high-rise complex in Syracuse. She's already gathering her furnishings, and will have a pretty comfy home up there. The bathroom theme is ducks, the kitchen is apples, and I suspect the rest of the place will be painted brown to continue with the late-50's trend as shown in the previous decorative decisions. =P It's in a good neighbourhood and has covered parking, both of which I like, and she'll have more than enough room to accommodate me when my classes end in early August! i'm very excited. I've been told that upstate New York is some of the most beautiful landscape this country has to offer, and i'm anxious to see it, not to mention, to see my baby again!!! it was our 16 month anniversary on Sunday, and this Friday is her 22nd birthday, for which I am shipping off a package in the morning. I still have to pick something up for it though!!! FRUSTRATION!!! as nobody in St. Louis seems to carry a decent model of what i'm looking for.

When I'm not in class, I'm pretty bored, and although various members of my high school class have committed to calling me, have I heard from any of them? of course not. My theory is that, the second summer back, they've pretty much alienated all their old friends, and want to try to regain their friendship so they're not bored all summer, because, as I would imagine, most have made new friends at college who do not live here. I've been fortunate to have Steve and Jeremy to keep me company, with the occasional guest star of Ben H. It seems I will be able to spend less time with Steve though, as he's getting an internship at the St. Louis County Prosecutor's Office. Jeremy already has a job, so seeing him is a rare privilege. For the next week, however, Robin Lane Fox's "Alexander the Great" (a book that's actually about him) will keep me pretty good company. afterwards, i'm sure i'll find something to do. My sister wants to try to learn soccer again, about which i'm very happy. She's more and more like me every day. Anyway, I'm exhausted, so it's time to turn this in.
