The last three movies I watched were:

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - Of course I've seen this a few times, but I sat down and watched it because it was on tv last week. I didn't even remember the plot because it's been so long since I've seen this one. Damn, what a great movie! (yeah!)

I finally got into the stack of Netflix rentals that have been sitting out for a few weeks:

The Count of Monte Cristo - somehow I was not familiar with the story, so I didn't really mind the fact that they took cinematic liberties with the plot and characters (according to the supplemental stuff on the DVD). I thought this was a good movie. Good. It was entertaining and very well made, although the entire plot pretty much goes against everything I believe in. The swordfighting was RAD. (yeah)

The Guru - I ACTUALLY WENT TO A MOVIE IN A THEATER. Yes, amazing isn't it?

I really like The Guru. I'm pretty much certain that many people will be offended by it because it plays on stereotypes and some wacky character developement. The pivotal point which should shut everyone up is a confrontation in a restaurant where Ramu points out the idiocy of the clients.

I haven't seen a zillion bollywood films or anything, but I really appreciate the blending of styles and genres. I loved the references to other films, especially Grease (which I was slightly obsessed with as a child). I totally understood where Ramu was coming from in that regard.

I'm not sure the casting was right on, but it seems like this was meant to be a "small" film, so it's almost strange that there were well-known people like Marisa Tomei and Heather Graham. Marisa Tomei was doing a superb Parker Posey impression the entire time though!

Have you seen Party Girl? It's by the same director. I don't really have any other point other than that I love that movie.

So okay, if you liked Party Girl and enjoy silly movies (a la Peter Sellers) you'll probably like this...otherwise you'll be annoyed. (yeah!)
