So, I haven't felt the need to update livejournal in quite sometime...but my brain has been working and theories have been developing...so I wanted to write them down.
I was listening to a cd talk on 'generation y' generally defined as those born after 1983- present day. It was discussing how this present 'youth of the nation' has been raised. Whats awesome about generation y and what is slightly scary, any way onto my theory.
I think there are a lot of hurting teenagers in this day in age. I think that although we've defined the need for counsling, the need for psychiatric help, we are still somehow missing the boat. I told my roomate the other day, that it's almost like group counsling is needed for the whole world. What we are dealing with is a culture of CHAOS and noise. That is what we see everyday, that is what we hear, that is what we experiance. Everyone keeps saying, 'these kids are stimulation junkies...etc.." Well, I guess the bottom line is that YES we ARE! We were raised to be that way. But if we are living in a culture of chaos, how are we suppose to understand a God who is firm and unshakable in his love for us? How are we to understand a Church, that does not respond within this chaotic system? How are we suppose to relate to parents/teachers etc...who were not raised (literally raised), on computer and mass media? I think these are good questions to ask. I think every teen/young adult should be asking these questions, and seeking these answers. There's an ol' saying, "Do not be conformed to this world, instead be transformed by the renewal of your mind" Rom 12:2. How are we to live in this world, with all it's questions, and wonders, with all of it's truths and deceptions, and somehow come to a place where we are not conforming.
This is just personal opinion but I think we have to question. We have been raised to believe taht we can question, and then leave it at that. NOT SO!!! That is chaos. We need to question seeking answers, radically demanding answers to our questions. Not being satisfied at not having an answer, and once we are satisfied with the answers that we find, we have to TRANSFORM our hearts to the truth of the LOVE and peace that we find in these answers, and then live that truth everyday. Then, and only then can we be witnesses to others, then and only then people will stop saying "This world has gotten so bad", and actually be able to say, "This world is so good, this is the world that I live in and I want it to be what I would like it to be".
There's that commercial on MTV right now where someone throws a piece of trash on the ground and everyone just stands there looking at it, discussing how appaling it is...after sometime a kid comes up and throws that piece of paper in the trash can. I think we need to decide...I NEED TO DECIDE, am I gonna stare at that piece of paper, am I going to stare at this world, or am I going to throw the piece of paper out, am I goign to act.
Again, this is just my thoughts. That's what a livejournal is huh?
Big shout-out to the Mercy gals:-)
