Prompt 47: KILL
Warnings/Summary: Because scribe asked for it. Literally. ^_^ Or specifically for, 'Ace beats Blackbeard'. You don't know how I managed to force myself from making him beat BB in a cracky chess-game or something, scribe, so I hope you're happy!

Title: Insignificant

*growls* Why did Ace not do this in canon?! Dramatic speeches are all well and good, but a nakama-killer deserves the most ignominious, unimportant death possible, surely? Grr.

I'm glad you think this Ace is bad-ass. ^_^ Thank~ee!

That's no excuse!! *shakes fist at Ace* You didn't get to be 2nd Division Commander by being stupid, you nitwit! GRAGHHHH!!

Phew. Sorry. Had to get that out of my system.

"Oh, I won't bother, you know, actually *researching* my enemy or anything. That would be silly!"

*punches Ace repeatedly in the FACE*

Hmmm... Smoker? I was going to say Kuro but he's not heroic. -_-'

I think Usopp (and Sanji!) would, but he's never really given a chance either; when the Strawhats *do* know they're going to be in a fight, they don't really have time to research.

There seem to be more intelligent villains (or semi-villains, like Lucci) and woman than male heroes.

For some reason, stupid heroes are incredibly popular. The only manga I can think off in recent times where the main character isn't an idiot/naive, or just incredibly happy-go-lucky would be Death Note, and to be honest, there was no-one who was really a 'hero' in that. (And I didn't like most of it.) I wonder why people like their heroes to be thickos?

Yeah, but why not have the hero explain something to the dumbass sidekick/random bystander?

Hm, I suppose so; it all depends what you count as 'main' though. I've seen manag/books.films, etc, where the main character didn't actually get as much screen-time as someone else, but they were still (somehow) the main character. Of all Fairy Tale characters (not that I've read very far - too busy with other stuff -_-') I still count Natsu as the main main character, even before Lucy, etc.

But really, it's an exception proving a rule. Most mainstream, popular manga - One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, even Eyeshield; no matter how many main characters they have, the MAIN main one is generally stupid or incredibly childlike (I count Eyeshield because Sena's basically useless with schoolwork, but ES21 is more 'realistic' as it's a non-supernatural/fantasy manga, so an incredibly stupid main char wouldn't work in it).

Crap, that was long.

No, he isn't *stupid*, but a) like you said, he's pretty bad at schoolwork, b) he's kind of childish - not eide-eyed, spazzing!Chopper childish, but just in a kind of scared-child,please-protect-me! way (although he's got a lot better since taking up football ( ... )
