The Force Awakens

Saw it the other day at the Swancon screening - sold out. At least I'm not in Hawaii - my friend there tells me every cinema was sold out three months in advance, and we be so for weeks. Apparently Star Wars is hugely popular in Hawaii, but then the large Japanese-American population can recognise a samurai drama when one shows up.

Anyway -

It's A New Hope with some of the names changed. Nobody has learned ANYTHING since the original trilogy. Kylo Ren is as big a whiny little shit as his predecessors - and everybody on the Death Star Starkiller Base knows it. Imperial OHS got force-choked to death by the Sith again, apparently. The Neo-Nazi superweapon is even more ridiculous than it was in the previous incarnations.

Still, it's a very entertaining more - Abrams actually got this right (admittedly by taking no risks with the script) and it was still dramatic, loud, and frequently as funny as hell. And the shipping potential of the three leads is running somewhere between Spanish Armada and Supertanker.
